February 2017
Message from Shanon Shea Miller
AICP, Director

Spring is just around the corner, so be on the lookout for new programs and opportunities provided by OHP! On Valentine's Day, we hosted our 7th annual Historic House Specialist course at the Plaza de Armas.  Annually, we partner with SABOR to secure certification of the course which enables us to offer CE credits to realtors.
Through a full day of presentations and informational sessions, over 70 real estate professionals learned how to effectively market and sell historic properties, finance a rehabilitation project, and advise their clients about historic styles and appropriate construction materials. Congratulations to OHP specialist Lauren Sage for a job well done in planning and executing this event. We look forward to holding another SOLD OUT training in the future!

We are also excited to be unveiling TWO awesome fiesta medals for OHP and the Power of Preservation Foundation at Cool Crest Miniature Golf on April 7. Both medals and ticket sales will support hands-on preservation programs administered by OHP. Tickets are on sale now at the link below!

Finally, I'd like to welcome our newest OHP team member Stephanie Phillips. Stephanie started this month as our new Senior Historic Preservation Specialist. She is very talented and passionate about preservation, and we are excited to have her. Welcome, Stephanie!

Programs and Initiatives
Eastside Churches Survey
In 2016, we launched ScoutSA as our comprehensive survey and designation initiative. ScoutSA utilizes the Discovery App: a mobile web application that anyone can use to collect property information. Visit our surveys page to find out how to use the tool and become a scout!

This spring City Council District 2 and OHP undertook a new survey and designation effort focusing on historic Eastside churches. Dozens of sites were documented and researched, resulting in a preliminary list of over 30 properties that are eligible for historic designation. Read more on our blog or view the churches inventory that was built using the Discovery App!
