M2K Student Spotlight
Ramy moved to Pittsburgh from Egypt, where he earned an Engineering degree. Previously, he worked as a maintenance engineer. He didn’t understand why workers made mistakes that caused damage to machines or why they needed so much time to complete a job. Lacking production experience, Ramy hoped to understand his field better from a production standpoint and work in the U.S. as an engineer.

Joining the M2K program was his first step toward that goal. “The program was amazing. I was learning many [things], . . . many different ways to finish projects.” The program also helped him get acclimated to the U.S. and feel more comfortable. “It made my language better,” he said, “talking with them [students and teachers], speaking together, the jokes, sharing time together. It was good for me.”

Ramy accepted a position as a Machine Operator at a local machine shop in November 2017.
NCC Board of Directors Spotlight
Jim Vazzo joined the NCC Board in 2011 and accepted the role of Treasurer in 2013. He became involved with NCC because of his belief that the organization could benefit from having a board member with a background in both finance and manufacturing. He truly believes in NCC’s mission, having seen firsthand the inability of manufacturers to fill positions due to a lack of skilled employees.

Jim’s finance/accounting/manufacturing background spans the steel, plumbing ware, engineered polymers, engineered products, powder metals, ceramic and carbide finishing, and electronics industries. These businesses represent revenue in the range of $3 million to $200 million. In 2012, with a business partner, he founded The CFO Factor—a consulting firm that provides financial direction to organizations too small or financially unable to afford a full-time CFO.

He holds a B.S. degree in Accounting and an MBA degree, both from Youngstown State University. Jim has taught cost accounting as an adjunct faculty member at Kent State University and was President of the Pittsburgh Downtown Business Connection.

Throughout his tenure on the board, he has never missed a meeting. Thank you, Jim!
