Featured Company:

Nord-Lock/Superbolt, Inc. develops and manufactures high-quality multi-jackbolt tensioners. Thanks to this almost four-decade tradition, Nord-Lock/Superbolt is known for cost-effective bolting solutions in every major industry, all over the world.

NCC is proud of our partnerships with innovative companies like Nord-Lock/Superbolt. We thank them for their continued support of our program and helping us to further our mission to train and place machinists. Since 2015, Superbolt has hired more of our MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) graduates than any other company. In total, 8 M2K graduates have been placed at Superbolt, representing 12% of total placements during that time period. They have also participated in our student field trips and given tours.

M2K Student Spotlight

Dwaine went to school for truck driving and worked in that field for five years, but he got into trouble with the law. Before he started the MANUFACTURING 2000 program, he had been out of work for months and was sitting around the house, spending his free time tinkering.

The program sparked his interest, but he said, “I never dreamt I’d learn to operate any of this [the machines].” With a solid background from the online courses and great instructors, he learned to put his tinkering skills to use in machining. Dwaine’s class visited a local manufacturer on a field trip, and he was thrilled to see all of the metalworking projects lining the shop. He asked for an application and was offered a machinist position at the company in February 2017. "If I can do it in four months and get a job, you can too. It’s [the M2K program is] a godsend,” he said.
Sprout Fund award allows partnership with Center of Life

Thanks to the Sprout Fund, we are happy to be a part of a new collaboration that will support young men of color in developing technical, social, and academic skills that will enhance their quality of life and ability to secure future employment.

The My Brother's Keeper (MBK) initiative addresses persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color. The Pittsburgh-Allegheny County version of MBK is committed to ensuring that young people of color in the Pittsburgh region achieve academic proficiency in skills that prepare them for local economic opportunities.

NCC will be working with Center of Life, a community empowerment agency in Hazelwood that aims to provide families and youth with the life skills, education, training, and resources necessary to be strong and to make their communities strong.

This month, NCC welcomed the Intermediate Unit One Regional Service Agency.

We're excited for the youth of I.U.1 based on their staff's new knowledge of manufacturing career pathways.
