Charlie, from Greensburg, PA, worked at a large local media corporation from 1997 until he was laid off in 2016. When he enrolled in the M2K program, he had some past experience in machining, making his own rifle chambers at home. Even with his background, he said he learned something new every day from the M2K instructors. Charlie earned 6 NIMS credentials while in training at NCC and gained employment as an apprentice trainee at a local manufacturer. After enrolling in the NTMA Apprenticeship program, he earned a 40% raise within a year of employment and now earns $17.50 per hour.

BotsIQ Need for Industry Advisors
|
|
We Need YOU!
As we engage the next generation of manufacturers, we need your help too!
Please consider becoming a BotsIQ Industry Advisor this school year!
|
|
BotsIQ high school students work in teams to design and build a remote-controlled Bot. Through this project-based learning
opportunity, they learn the needed skills for a future in manufacturing.
Skills such as:
- critical thinking
- design and engineering
- problem solving
- hands-on skills with a variety of tools and machines
|
|
Being a BotsIQ Advisor is a critical role in promoting manufacturing to the future generation.
As an advisor, you are paired with a local high school in your community. You and the teacher advisor will work together to plan meetings and a company tour during the school year. Throughout the process, teams may need help with designing or machining of their Bot. They may need access to raw materials. They also need to understand the importance of documentation in the manufacturing process.
As an industry advisor, you will have the opportunity to build your pipeline of skilled manufacturing workers, influence curriculum enhancements in local high schools, and create community goodwill and positive PR.
