New Land Update, Rugby World Cup Visit and Pre-Season Rugby Update
Hertford RFC News

NEW LAND UPDATE
I hope you are enjoying the fine summer we have had so far.  It's hard to believe pre-season training has already started for the 1st XV.

I thought it timely to provide an update on our new land. We have been working closely with the planning officers of EHDC to amend our application to obtain their approval ahead of the next EHDC planning meeting in July.  We have slightly adjusted the size and lay out of the new carpark and widened the drive and entrance. If you have received a letter of consultation from EHDC concerning this amendment then please ensure you respond supporting the application.

It is proving a little more complicated to get the change of use from agricultural to recreational due to changes to the green belt planning rules. We have therefore decided to separate these applications as the carpark and drive is more of a priority. We will be putting in a further application for two pitches and are confident that consent will be obtained.

Web Ellis Trophy Visit

The Web-Ellis Trophy (that's the Rugby World Cup to the uninitiated) is visiting the Club on WEDNESDAY 19th AUGUST. There'll be lots of activities surrounding the event and it's sure to be busy. This (and later in the day in Bishop's Stortford) are the trophy's only visit to Hertfordshire. Watch the website for more information. Why not join in the Touch Rugby Competition running alongside the visit.

Pre-Season Rugby Update
With pre-season already underway, what can we look forward to at 'The Lane' next season?

Newly appointed Director of Rugby  (and prodigal son No.1) Paul Allen gives us a sneak preview of who's new.

" I'm really pleased to be back at Hoe Lane and genuinely looking forward to not only next season but beyond.

I have quite a wide remit but a key role is to support our one club policy ensuring everyone feels valued and part of team Hertford. A successful senior set up does help drive a club and to that end I have been busy looking to add to our already strong squad.

I can confirm the following signings:

Backs:
  • Richard Gregg : (10 or 15) Formally a senior player at OA's and has been instrumental in many of their successes.
  • Joe Murphy : A very talented utility back that has specialised in 7's over recent years playing on the elite circuit around the world. Joe was at Stourbridge RFC up to Xmas but suffered a serious injury and is now coming back to full fitness.
  • James Solomon: formerly at Bury RFC indeed played against Hertford last season. A powerful centre/ wing that also plays elite 7's for samurai.
  • Steve Ellis : Former Hertford favourite, (Prodigal No.2) Steve has had a great few years of rugby culminating in going to Bedford. Steve's work career also  took off and so now is looking forward to be back representing Hertford .
F orwards:
  • Jack Elborne: prop. formally from Luton and Cambridge now playing in Australia for a premier division team, he is returning to play for Hertford this season .
  • Craig South: Another prodigal son (No.3) of Hertford.  Returning to us after a bit of a break with Luton RFC and he is raring to go in the engine room of the 2nd row.
  • Jack Elston: back row/second row formally Luton RFC
Possibly a couple more exciting signings but negotiations are on going!   Hopefully I'll bump in to you all soon."
