Raising $10,000 for our 10th Year

2015 will be Skowhegan's tenth year as a nationally-designated Main Street community, so we want to expand our programming and increase our impact in improving, beautifying, and enlivening downtown. To achieve this, Main Street Skowhegan's board of directors has a goal of raising $10,000 by the end of 2014. Hight Family of Dealerships, the Somerset County Bar Association, Belmont Motel, and six other donors have already helped us raise almost $2,500. Help us reach our goal by making a tax-deductible donation today!

We are also taking this ten year anniversary as an opportunity to look back on what we are calling our Decade of Development and to highlight some of our accomplishments.

"My son's favorite attraction is the talking tree. We love seeing all the activity on the streets!"

An example of our impact: Holiday Stroll

This year we celebrate downtown Skowhegan's 22nd annual Holiday Stroll! It is the magic of the holiday season set in the historic core of our town and populated by the hard-working people who run its small, independent businesses. The community comes together to host a lighted parade, breakfast with Santa, and activities throughout downtown.

Being more than twice as old as Main Street Skowhegan, Holiday Stroll was conceived and has been driven for many years by the merchants who do business downtown. Main Street leverages a wide volunteer base to make sure this event remains special for area families each year.

"My son's favorite attraction is the talking tree," said Main Street volunteer Hailey Grace. "We love seeing all the activity on the streets."

Main Street staff and volunteers are here to make sure events come together. When the Skowhegan Parks and Recreation Department needed help with the parade last year, Main Street pulled together the capacity necessary to keep the tradition going.

The community-building impact of this event and our over 25 other ongoing projects is made possible by our generous supporters.
