Historic Preservation Emergency!

Historic Waveland Estate To Be Sold At Absolute Auction!

THIS SATURDAY!

This is a notice of an auction of a historic site significant to Danville and Boyle County and the state of Kentucky. The Willis Green or Waveland Estate at 120 West Erskine Drive in Danville will be sold at absolute auction this Saturday, June 8th at 10:30 AM by Wilson Realty & Company --http://www.danvillekyrealty.com/auctions.

Originally a several hundred-acre farm named for its rolling hills, Waveland was the home of early Kentucky settler Willis Green, his wife Sarah Reed, and his 12 children. Green, a representative of Kentucky County in the Virginia Legislature and a framer of Kentucky's constitution, had his family home built in 1800. A two-story, brick Georgian style house with broad proportions and decorative coursework, the house perhaps was most distinguished by its fine interior work crafted by Irish artisans from Philadelphia, including ornate mantels, an impressive staircase, and exceptional moldings.

The home has been vacant for decades. The original porch has been removed, all windows are damaged, and some roof collapse has happened in the rear of the house. Representatives from Preservation Kentucky and Boyle Landmarks Trust have recently toured the historic home, and the foundation, brick and plaster walls, and the interior ornamental work is intact and in surprisingly good condition.

Viable interested parties have indicated purchasing the house for its architectural salvage value and demolition, the purchase point may be low. We are notifying the Kentucky preservation community in the event that a private party may be interested in purchasing such a historic site and the challenges and  rewards of a major rehabilitation project. Some private parties or preservation groups may also have interest in working to purchase the site independently or collectively to secure the home and re-sell
with a preservation easement.

Please contact Barbara Hulette of Boyle Landmarks Trust, (859) 239-0038, or Bethany Rogers at the Heart of Danville, (859) 236-1990, with additional questions or interest about the property.
