As 2017 comes to an end, we're excited about what the future holds for the Whitefish Bay Public Library. This year saw the introduction of our new library logo and slogan. Next year we're excited to take that one step further and premiere our new website which will make it even easier to check your account, get book recommendations, and see what librarians are reading.

Like what we're doing? Consider the library as you make your end of year donations. Your tax-deductible contribution will help us bring you the type of services and materials that you've come to expect from us.

Make your donation here.

The library will be closed on Sunday, December 24 and Monday, December 25. We'll also be closed Sunday, December 31 and Monday, January 1. Otherwise the library will be open our regular hours.

Whitefish Bay TALKS with Jefferson Aikin and Thomas Fehring
"Historic Whitefish Bay: a Celebration of Architecture and Character"
Tuesday, December 12, 6:30pm
Please register

Incorporated in 1892, Whitefish Bay is a pleasant, verdant village that is home to more than fourteen thousand people. More than half of its five thousand houses and other structures have been deemed historic or architecturally important. Even casual passersby can attest to the architectural significance of these buildings, and while the personal history attached to them is less apparent, it is no less dramatic. Their walls retain the stories of their remarkable inhabitants, from the outhouse where the first village president disappeared in 1899 with $20,000 in public funds to the lakeside Beaux-Arts mansion built by a Schlitz Brewing Company heir with eight varieties of Italian marble. Jefferson J. Aikin and Thomas H. Fehring examine these landmark treasures and the legacy of the residents they help preserve.

Not the Son He Expected
Saturday, December 16, 2pm

Not the Son He Expected explores the powerful and emotionally complex bonds between gay sons and their fathers. Twenty-six interviewees speak eloquently about their relationship with their father and offer hard-won advice on topics such as how and when to best come out to ones father, how to deal with non-accepting fathers and families, how to practice healthy self-care, and--since many of these men are now fathers themselves--how to be a loving and supportive dad. Not the Son He Expected will prove to be a helpful and encouraging resource for gay sons, for their fathers, and for all those who love and care about them.
