"Forced Riders" is a far more accurate description for those who are required to support a union
Union leaders will often claim that they MUST represent even those who don't pay/join. This is another false narrative. Federal laws DO NOT REQUIRE security clauses in contracts. Unions CAN negotiate contracts that legally allow them to only represent members. In fact, that's how most union contracts were executed until the 1960's. And it's how most union contracts are done today throughout the world.
The ultimate irony: unions are free to choose to not represent non-members but workers are not free to choose to be non-members!
In America today it's almost impossible to find a worker who actually voted to have their union. These "elections for perpetuity" are granted by Federal Law. Thank goodness these same laws do not apply to elected officials...at least we are able to elect, reject, or re-elect our representatives on a regular basis. It can be fairly stated unions enjoy a "super governmental status"...at the high cost of loss of individual freedom and liberty. But thankfully states with courage can remove this special protection that ONLY UNIONS enjoy.
Because of these very unique AND TOTALLY UNNATURAL GOVERNMENT PROTECTIONS the real Free Riders are unions themselves....freely and shamelessly riding (abusing) their special government treatment.
Thanks to the courage and leadership of many, especially Gov Snyder, We are about to solve the true FREE RIDER problem for hardworking Michigan citizens. And, in doing so, send a clear message to the world that Michigan is, indeed, being reinvented. We are on track to regain the economic prominence Michigan once enjoyed by unleashing individual freedom to hardworking Michiganders. And in doing so we are making Michigan a very attractive place to invest and create job opportunities. The world recognizes the unique natural and developed assets Michigan offers. By establishing Michigan as a Labor Freedom state we are removing one of the last remaing obstacles to investing in Michigan.
Labor Freedom is best defined as "where unions are as free to make their CASE as workers are to make their CHOICE".
To all citizens and hardworking taxpayers in Michigan: Stay strong, calm, and humbly confident. We are making the right decision. The comprehensive poll data is abundantly clear: the vast majority of Michigan citizens, in virtually every demographic, strongly support Freedom to Work. The obvious fairness of "labor freedom" is deeply engrained in the hearts of our fellow citizens. We are on very solid ground.
Serving with and for you,
Mike Shirkey
State Representative 65th District
Bet on Michigan...a (soon to be) Labor Freedom state!
