Opportunities for Mission
Soup Kitchen
Third Tuesday of the Month

Soup Kitchen help needed!

On the third Tuesday of each month (except July and August)  Hitchcock women prepare a meal for 150 folks and take it up to Grace Church in White Plains.   Preparations start at 9:00 AM in the kitchen, and we are usually through by 10:15 AM.  This is a "hands on" opportunity, so come join!

Thrift
Monday Mornings

Every Monday morning, the Thrift Shop is open from 10 AM until 12:30 PM! Why not stop by and browse the racks of clothing for all ages, handbags, lovely china and glassware, toys and much, much more? We also hold two big Tag Sales a year, one in the fall and one in the spring.

The profits from the sale of merchandise are given out to organizations that support women and children, both here and abroad. At our Fall Happening we raised $4,200, which we divided between Midnight Run and El Centro Hispano. Just from our Monday Morning operations we were able to write two checks, each for $1000, to Beyond Borders and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Beyond Borders is on the ground in Haiti helping villages rebuild from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew. PDA is working with communities in the southeastern United States as they too rebuild after Matthew.

So, please visit the shop - you will find bargains and treasures - and help support a very important mission of PW. And if you would like to get involved, we are ALWAYS looking for extra hands to help sort and price - just show up and we will put you to work!! SEE YOU ON MONDAY MORNING!

"Kirk's Fund Children's Anthem" Winner Just Published

The winning anthem of the third "Kirk's Fund Children's Anthem Competition" has just been published by Choristers Guild. The anthem, "We Are the Body of Christ," is the third anthem in a series that was established in 2009 by long-time member, Kirk Richardson, to celebrate music and the gifts of children. It is a national competition held every three years. All three winning anthems have been published. This month would have been Kirk's 94th birthday. What a wonderful way to celebrate her legacy with this very special recognition. Thank you to all who have contributed to Kirk's Fund over the years to make this possible.

Presbyterian Women
Women's "Welcome Summer" Dinner

On Sunday June 4th, Hitchcock women and their friends joined together for an evening of food, fellowship and fun sponsored by Presbyterian Women (PW). They heard an interesting and hopeful presentation by Tracey Tsai, Hitchcock member and Director of Haiti Marycare, and Dr. Jack Binder, DDS, spouse of a Hitchcock member and dental volunteer in Haiti. Tracey talked about Haiti Marycare's work in the isolated fishing village of Jacquesyl located on Haiti's northeast coast. Through donations it makes free elementary school education available to the village children and provides hygiene kits to mothers about to give birth. Dr. Jack spoke about the poor dental hygiene in Haiti and how he and his team pulled an enormous number of teeth too decayed to save. His extraordinary slides really gave everyone insight into the realities of life in Haiti.

PW began supporting Haiti Marycare in June 2014 after Mary Lou Larkin, the medical director, came to speak. Ever since, using some of the funds raised from Thrift sales, PW has supported Mary Lou's Celebrate Young Women Initiative which helps to financially support girls to continue their secondary education. In addition PW has provided funds for a solar panel pump, purchased a portable dental chair to make Dr. Binder's work more manageable and provided funds to be put towards further construction of the school in Jacquesyl.
