Youth Ministry
Sunday School News

What a great month learning about missions! Last week we learned about how a Presbyterian church in Cuba nurtures friendship with older adults as part of their mission outreach. The best gift we can give our older adult friends is the gift of listening to their stories. Pastelitos  - a sweet or savory pastry - makes the visit complete! Sunday School is on hiatus in August. Get ready for Rally Day (September 10)!!

We received a note from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance with thanks for the hygiene kits that our Sunday School sent to them in June.  "Presbyterian Disaster Assistance appreciates those of you who prepared and supported the Gift of the Heart kits...We believe you are helping to offer not only essential supplies such as personal hygiene - but also hope. The neighbor you helped might be in  Syria, Nicaragua, Louisiana, North Carolina, Sierra Leone, among many other area stricken by disaster. We encourage you to pray for these neighbors, that the enduring hope of Christ will be evident to them. Thank you for providing a tangible witness to the compassion of Christ, and for sharing a love that reaches beyond borders and helps to give hope along with kit supplies."

Thank you to all who gave so generously to this collection project!

Ecumenical Food Pantry of White Plains

Summer's here! We just delivered 15 bags of donated food to the Pantry last week. So, our cupboard is bare! Hunger doesn't take a break during the summer, so please remember to bring in your non-perishable food items. Let's keep the larder filled! Thank you for your support of the Food Pantry!

Calendars for Prison Ministry

The Hudson River Presbytery Prison Partnership is collecting 2018 Calendars to distribute to men and women incarcerated at Sing Sing and Bedford Hills correctional facilities.  PLEASE DONATE the calendars you may receive from non-profits at this time of year... our sisters and brothers on the inside love getting the calendars, and appreciate your thoughtfulness. Please bring your calendars to the church office for collection.  Thank you!
Haiti
Donation of School Supplies

Tracey Tsai visited Jackzil in March 2015, there were no school supplies in any of the classrooms and teachers used small pieces of chalk for teaching. With the help of Greenacres, Quaker Ridge and Hitchcock Church we have been able to change that sad reality to a new one.

We are collecting leftover and new school supplies for Haiti for the fall. Please put them in the collection bins opposite the elevators. Any supplies that your children have brought home and they do not want to keep please put them in the bins.

Items can be gently used or new.

Pens, Pencils, Crayons, Markers.

Monday Mornings

Every Monday morning, the Thrift Shop is open from 10 AM until 12:30 PM! Why not stop by and browse the racks of clothing for all ages, handbags, lovely china and glassware, toys and much, much more? We also hold two big Tag Sales a year, one in the fall and one in the spring.

The profits from the sale of merchandise are given out to organizations that support women and children, both here and abroad. At our Fall Happening we raised $4,200, which we divided between Midnight Run and El Centro Hispano. Just from our Monday Morning operations we were able to write two checks, each for $1000, to Beyond Borders and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Beyond Borders is on the ground in Haiti helping villages rebuild from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew. PDA is working with communities in the southeastern United States as they too rebuild after Matthew.

So, please visit the shop - you will find bargains and treasures - and help support a very important mission of PW. And if you would like to get involved, we are ALWAYS looking for extra hands to help sort and price - just show up and we will put you to work!! SEE YOU ON MONDAY MORNING!
Living in America
Thursdays/Beginning in September

YOU COULD HAVE FUN TEACHING IN LIVING IN AMERICA

You, too, could be a LIVING IN AMERICA (LIA) teacher. LIA, Hitchcock's Thursday morning English conversation program for international adults, is planning for its 42nd program year which will start in September 2017. Volunteering in this weekly church outreach program is rewarding and requires no knowledge of a foreign language. To get a good idea of what fun it is to teach, talk with one of the current or recent teachers: Margaret Black, Linda Camp, Jean Chang, Veronica Cocchiaraley, Marthe Czufin, Diane Ghari, Diane Gismond, Juliet Gopoian, Kathy Gray, David Griffiths, Silchen Lee, Susan Lee-Chong, Barrie Mabie, Eleanor November, Dan Smith, Gertrude Traugott, Tracey Tsai, Rene Thiel or Heather Thorp.

If you are interested in being a regular or substitute teacher, please contact Diane Gismond. For more information about the program, call Diane Gismond (723-9286), Linda Camp (997-7468) or Eleanor November (305-3481).

Book Club
Sunday, September 17

The Hitchcock Bookclub's next book is Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. This #1 New York Times Bestseller is a novel with richly layered characters and a gripping moral dilemma that will prompt readers to question what they know about privilege, power and race.

Please join us on September 17, 2017 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. to discuss our first book of the fall session.

The other books lined up for the fall session are:  Saint Mazie by Jami Attenberg, on October 15, 2017, and the classic Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, on November 19, 2017.
