Welcome to the first official e-newsletter from the Office of Off-Campus Living and Commuting Student Services.

 

You will receive monthly newsletters that will contain:

  • Information on events produced by our office, other offices and organizations on campus and around your neighborhood
  • Important dates on campus including registration deadlines and campus closures   
  • Tips and facts that will be useful to you as a commuter

Stop by the Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater at Common Hour (11:15 a.m.) to learn about Hofstra's various transportation methods and have the opportunity to voice your opinions and concerns about the options.

These are the People in Your Neighborhood

Join us for dinner alongside some important members of the community while discussing your rights and responsiblities of being a member of both Hofstra University and your living community. Event starts at 7 p.m. in the Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater.
 


 

February 16th

Finding a Place to Belong

Come to Plaza Room East during Common Hour (11:15 a.m.) to meet with various student leaders and commuting students and learn how to get involved in campus life. The Office of Student Leadership and Activities will be on hand to tell you about the variety of organizations we have on campus.

NAACP Presents: Black History Month Film Series Each week in February, a film depicting African American history will be shown in the Cultural Center Theater.

Come hear this year's keynote address by Dr. Charlton McIlwain and student speaker Precilla John, Vice President of NAACP. The event will take place during Common Hour (11:15 a.m.) in the Plaza Middle and West.

N-Word Exchange

Stephen Maynard Caliendo and Charlton Mcilwain from North Central College and New York University exchange frank views about the appropriate use of the "n-word" in contemporary society. Who can use it and who can't? Does the word serve any valuable purpose? This event takes places in the Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater from 2:55 - 4:20 p.m.  Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural & International Student Programs, Hofstra University Honors College, Department of Political Science, Center for Civic Engagement, Hofstra Cultural Center, and the Office for University Relations
