Fall is in full swing, and the holidays are approaching fast. Greenwich Recreation has much to offer.  See below for new and updated information on several fall and winter sports programs for youth and adults.  The Special Event list for November to December is available, click here.  Information is now available for reduced rates for ski lessons, lift tickets, and equipment rentals at Thunder Ridge Ski Area.  Additionally, check out the Dorothy Hamill Skating RinkEGCC, and BWGCC for additional holiday break activities. 

Holiday Programs!    Mark your calendar for Wednesday, December 13 for the presentation of the play "A Christmas Carol" to be held at the BWGCC.  Tickets are now on sale.  Also, the Annual Tree Lighting event at Town Hall will take place Friday, December 1.   Sorry to say that tickets for Brunch with Santa are SOLD OUT.

The Parks and Recreation Office at Town Hall will be CLOSED Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24 for Thanksgiving. General office hours are weekdays 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  The Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink, Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, and Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center are all CLOSED Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23.

Fall and Winter Sports racquetsports
Online registration is now open for indoor sports which will begin in January.

 Boys ages 7-10 can participate in an 8- week  Baseball Clinic.  Training will be on key fundamentals including hitting, throwing, and pitching.  Girls ages 7-14 can participate in an 8-week  Softball Clinic.  Training will focus on the fundamentals of  throwing, catching, hitting, pitching, stealing and sliding.  Players interested in the Greenwich Spring Babe Ruth League are encouraged to attend.  Both programs will be held at  EGCC.

Online registration is also open for two Pickleball programs for adults.  For those with no or little experience, you may register for one or both  Adult Pickleball Instructional Clinics.  There is NO drop-in play for the clinics.  For those who already have experience, you can register to play one, two, or three days per week at a discounted rate for  Indoor Pickleball.  This is NOT an instructional program; you must have previous experience.

Registration is still open for youth basketball programs; although limited openings remain.  The program begins this Saturday, November 18Girls in Kindergarten through Grade 2   can learn basic skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense in a fun atmosphere.  There are several sections of  Co-ed Basketball  for youth in Kindergarten through Grade 5.  These programs are designed to enhance and sharpen existing skills as well as teach new skills, strategy, techniques, and sportsmanship.  Team play is stressed through half-court games.



The Men's Basketball League is being formed.   There will be a Corporate League, Resident League, and new 40+ League.  For more information, contact  Frank Gabriele

Registration is underway for adults to play   Platform Tennis.  The two courts at Loughlin Avenue  in Cos Cob opened early this year on September 30 .  The courts are open to members 7 days per week from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.  The courts have lights that go on every evening at dusk as well as a new heating system to provide quick removal of ice and snow during the colder months.  Read more.

Dorothy Hamill Skating RinkDHSR
The Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink is open with daily public sessions. CLOSED Thanksgiving Day. The Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink is located on Sue Merz Way, off Sherman Avenue; phone (203) 531-8560.  The rink is equipped with Live Barn, which can broadcast sporting events taking place at the rink.  Use the promo code e0a9-56d7 to get a 10% discount off the fee.

Greenwich Skatepark   skatepark
The new concrete skatepark is located at 100 Arch Street.  It is only open on the weekends now from 12:30-4:00 PM.

Eastern Greenwich Civic Center EGCC
The EGCC has much lined up for November including the Big Apple Invitational Pigeon Show,  children's art classes, Friday night roller skating, and more.   Drop-in play is still available for fall pickleball.   For additional information on these and other programs and events, see our November Newsletter.        

The Civic Center has rooms of varying sizes available to rent for your next party, meeting, or class!  Call us at (203) 637-4583 or contact us by e-mail .  Download a Civic Center brochure.  The EGCC is located at 90 Harding Road in Old Greenwich.  
 
BWGCCBendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center
Roller Skating Party will be held on December 28 from 2:00-4:00 PM.  Tickets are $7.00 which includes skate rental if needed.  Tickets go on sale  online Monday, November 13.  SEW HAPPY is offering a Sewing and Craft Camp December 27-29.  Also, SEW HAPPY will have a Winter Sewing Machine School for Kids

Registration is ongoing for  Youth Basketball Clinics for ages 5 through 10.    BWGCC has other fun programs for youth including, Just Wee Two and the many programs of The Dance Pointe.  Soccer with Aldwin is offering programs this winter for youth ages 4 to 7.

Adults can participate in Zumba classes. Open Coed Adult Volleyball  is held Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00 PM; the drop-in fee is $4 per evening.   Adults can drop-in to play Pickleball; see the  Pickleball schedule.      KG Fitness Boot Camp class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Register for one or both evenings.

Thunder Ridge Ski and Snowboard Lessons ThunderRidge
In cooperation with Greenwich Recreation, Thunder Ridge Ski Area is offering ski and snowboard lessons at a discounted price when registered through Greenwich Recreation office.  Participants provide their own transportation.  For information and a registration form, click here.  A Freestyle Program is available for intermediate snowboarders.
National Alliance for Youth Sports
Member Organization

Greenwich Recreation is pleased to announce that we are now a Member Organization of the National Alliance for Youth Sports. Our staff and volunteers who work with our youth sports programs will have access to NAYS Coach Online Training.  For information in receiving this training, please contact  Sue Snyder.
Parks & Recreation Foundation PRFoundation
The Greenwich Parks & Recreation Foundation was set up to receive donations, allowing the community citizens and businesses an avenue to donate to the Town of Greenwich Parks & Recreation projects and  programs.  The foundation is a 501(c)(3).  For more information and to donate, visit the Foundation website .
  
Through the Parks & Recreation Foundation, one is able to donate to the Parks & Recreation Scholarship Fund.
Greenwich Farmers Market

The  Greenwich Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM through November 18 at the commuter parking lot on the corner of Arch Street and Horseneck Lane.  The market will take a break on November 25 and then resume on a smaller scale through December 23.    Download a flyer.

Special Recreation
Greenwich Special Olympics   offers sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual or physical challenges.  Read more.

Abilis  meets the needs of people with developmental disabilities throughout their lives.  Abilis works in schools, civic organizations, and with families throughout Fairfield County.  Their events are posted on their website calendar .
Weather Cancellation Information
Please make note of the Recreation Division's weather cancellation hotline phone # (203) 861-6100.  Information regarding cancellations and closures is also posted on our Recreation Sports Website , where you can also sign up to get text alerts and/or e-mails notifying you of changes. 
Recreation Credit and Refund Policy
Credit requests for recreation program registration will be considered if received in writing prior to the start of the program.  There is a $15.00 administrative fee for credits.
  
The general policy of the Recreation Division is that we do not process refunds unless a program has been cancelled.  Please read all registration information carefully and contact us prior to registering for a program if you have any questions.
