Sivas-Sonoma Sonoma County California 2009

Bright and full of character, the nose is pure Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate, this wine has a wonderful contrast between the rich, creamy mouthfeel from the Russian River portion of the blend and the bright, citrus flavors from Sonoma Valley, creating flavors of lemon curd and key lime pie. The finish is full-bodied with palate-cleansing acidity. Price $17.99

Summers Winery Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes procured from several select vineyards in Calistoga, including the Summers' own Villa Andriana Vineyard.  A medium-bodied wine with fruity sweet, black cherry and black currant notes interwoven with notions of barbeque smoke, white chocolate and espresso.  Price $29.99

Honig Winery Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Blackberry, plum and cherry notes are framed with hints of exotic spices, and perfectly balanced by sweet oak. The palate is full and rich, with structured tannins and a long finish.

Price $39.99

Owen Roe Abbot's Columbia Valley 2010

This year the Abbot's has an intense aroma of flowers and spice. The flavors are all over the spectrum.

There's gobs of fruit, with Zinfandel and Sangiovese forming the backbone of the wine. Merlot's cherries, Cabernet's dark fruited gravitas, Syrah's smoke and bittersweet chocolate, Zinfandel's over the top lushness and a long finish. Price $29.99

Caves Bailly-Lapiere Saint-Bris France 2009
This appellation wine is the only Sauvignon Blanc allowed to be grown in Burgundy.Previously kept for the locals, this delicious wine's grapes are grown on a marly soil very similar to its neighbor Chablis (it's only 35 miles away from Pouilly-Fum, too). The result is a Sauvignon Blanc that has the richness of flavor and mineral character of Chablis! "Moderately aromatic nose of mineral, gooseberry, and lemon, with a mid-palate of wet stone and citrus. Long finish, balanced and crisp."
Price $17.99

Craft Beer Corner News...

Fellow Beer Geeks,
Before I delve into what's being poured this week, I want to remind you that we've got all of your seasonal beer needs covered.  MdV has put together a top notch selection of winter warmers, stouts, barleywines and so on - exactly the kinds of brews you crave on a cold Christmas night.  And yes, we can special order your better half's favorite beers, which are the perfect stocking stuffers.  Stop in and we'll tell you how.  Remember too that we offer 10% off all cases of beer purchased, both straight or mix and match.

On this week's Friday Tasting Table, we're featuring a real up and comer in the local craft scene: DuClaw Brewing Co.  Based in Bel Air Maryland, these guys are pushing both the literal and figurative boundaries of what brewing a beer means.

We're featuring a few of their stouts this week, and without further ado:

- Naked Fish: A low ABV raspberry infused American Stout.  This is approachable yet complex, and something quite unique.
- Oak Aged Black Jack Stout: Aged for two months in whiskey barrels, this Russian Imperial Stout is creamy, rich and packed to the brim with warming whiskey character.
- Retribution: This bourbon barrel aged stout is quite a bit different from the Oaked Black Jack, as it's bottled straight from the barrels, and showcases a much different flavor profile.

Stop in and check out these top notch beers this Friday from 4:30-7:30pm, and receive a 10% discount on 'em as well, geeks.  We look forward to seeing you!
