St. John's First Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage
Last Saturday afternoon, April 8, 31 "pilgrims" shared a hot lunch at Crispin's Kitchen, prayed the first two Stations of the Cross in our church, were blessed on our way by Fr. Crispin, and headed for the bus stop at Greenwood and 85th.  We bussed and walked to five more churches, praying two stations at each, on our way to St. James Cathedral, where we prayed the final two Stations around 5 PM.  En route we visited Blessed Sacrament, St. Patrick, St. Joseph, Immaculate Conception, and St. Ignatius.  Our oldest pilgrim was 92, and our youngest was 8.  Four pilgrims took turns leading us in prayer. Several joined us from other parishes.  Everyone found this mini-pilgrimage with like-minded Catholics to be a rich preparation for Holy Week.  St. John's Cathedral Builders team hopes to repeat it next "Palm Saturday", so, mark your calendars now and save the date:  Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2018.

Campaign Update:  
Easter is the greatest feast in our liturgical calendar. We joyfully celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and are reminded of the magnitude of His sacrifice for us.
We are thankful for the sacrifice our volunteers continue to give during this busy time. We are proud to announce the leadership of our Honor the Past, Embrace the Present, Secure the Future Capital Campaign. Suzie Burke and Frank and DeAnn Feeman have graciously accepted the role of Honorary Chairs. Our Campaign Cabinet includes: Mike and Jennifer Bachhuber, Matt and Amy BonDurant, Matt and Meg Deines, Peter and Angela Doyle, Paul and Jessica Kelley, Mary Maduzia, Bernadette O'Leary, Patrick and Kathleen Owens, John and Annie Salinas, Paul Singer and Carolyn Sherman, Peter and Jennifer Stankovich, Greg and Gretchen Swanson, John and Michele Thornquist, Matt and Marianne Wells, and Larry and Mary Wiseman. Everyone loves getting together after mass. We need some volunteers to keep the treats going all summer.
We provide the detailed directions, and we ask that two people sign up to prepare the treats for the 8:30 and 10:30 masses. Sheila Connolly will be more than happy to show you the system if you'd like to sign up.

St. Al/John Track and Field

Track and Field season starts soon-register your 4th - 8th graders now (3rd graders are welcome to join at practice)
The daffodils are blooming and sun-breaks are emerging-this can only mean one thing: track season is here!  Please don't forget to register: visit the SportsPilot link

  • Running events include distance, sprints and relays of varying lengths. In addition to the running events CYO Track and Field features high jump, long jump, shot put, softball throw and turbojav.  8th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Pentathlon.
  • Practices begin Monday, April 3 and run to May 31 (no practice Memorial Day) and are held on Mondays and Wednesdays,  6:45pm-8:15pm at the Ingraham HS Track.
    • Coaches can be very flexible on practice attendance for kids in conflicting sports programs, such as club soccer, baseball or Girls on the Run-please reach out to Coaches Mike or Sam with questions.
  • Runners compete according to grade/gender and we need at least 8 runners per grade/gender to run two team relays.
Children don't need to have any track experience-they just need a good attitude and willingness to try.  Coach Mike Martinez (distance runners) and Coach Sam Lipscomb (sprinters) are both fabulous and fun and welcome any parents who can come and help with practices and run with kids.  Lorna Luebbe and Nelle Steele will be the team coordinators and help with field event practice.
