Holy Week at St. Peter's

The rituals of the Holy Three Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil tell the story of the salvation in a powerful way with rites dating back to the actual events themselves. This week is the foundation of all that we are as God's people.

Each service is a unique chapter in this story and we invite you to join us. If you can only join us once, try the Easter Vigil. However, we hope you'll be able to come to more. Your voice makes our proclamation of the Story all the more rich and meaningful.

Maundy Thursday, 7:30 pm

We tell of the last gathering of Jesus with his disciples, hear his command to love one another as he has loved us, learn about true service in the washing of feet, and receive Christ's offering of himself in the Eucharist. The service concludes with the dimming of light, stripping of the altar and descent into darkness.

A night-long watch is maintained in the chapel before our Lord's presence in the Sacrament. If you wish to participate in this vigil, you can email the church office. Volunteers for hourly times from 6 am onward on Good Friday are particularly welcomed, but you can join current volunteers at any time throughout the night.

Good Friday

The Solemn Liturgy, 12:00 Noon

We return from Maundy Thursday to a barren church and kneel in silence. The Passion from John's account of the Gospel is chanted as it has been for over 1500 years. Prayer is offered for the whole world. We approach the cross to offer our own veneration and personal prayer, and are fed with the remaining Sacrament from Maundy Thursday as a reminder that even in still and death, there is more to come.

Stations of the Cross, 7:30 PM

For those who cannot participate in the Solemn Liturgy or want to walk the way of the Cross, we offer the Stations with a hymn, homily, and communion from Maundy Thursday.

The Great Vigil of Easter, 7:30 pm

This is the most solemn and also most exultant service of the Christian Church. We gather in darkness when a fire is kindled. The Paschal Candle is lit for the first time and an ancient hymn of price extolling God's triumph in this holy night is sung. Christ's light grows stronger as prophecies from the Hebrew Scriptures are read. The community of heaven is invoked, Alleluia is said for the first time, light scatters darkness and Easter is here. Surrounded by beauty, with bells ringing, choirs singing, voices shouting, we receive the first Eucharist of the new season. Christ is Risen indeed!

If you can only attend one service, this is the service to attend! This is the first Eucharist of Easter and counts as your Easter observance if you are not able to return the next morning.

Easter Day,  8:00 am and 10:00 am

Our usual festive services continuing the Fifty Day celebration of our Lord's Resurrection.

Alleluia!
Christ is Risen!
The Lord is Risen indeed. Alleluia!
