Choral music, guitar ensemble and more at FLCC Winter Concert

Finger Lakes Community College music students give end-of-semester performances every December. The next event is the Winter Concert on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. featuring a variety of styles. The concert takes place in the auditorium on the main campus at 3325 Marvin Sands Drive.

Performers include the College Singers, a 26-member choral group directed by Ines Draskovic, associate professor of music. They will perform selections from "Gloria" by Vivaldi and "Requiem for the Living" by Elmira composer Dan Forrest. Their final piece will be an arrangement of the spiritual "Elijah Rock."

In addition, adjunct instructor Maria Gillard's Vocal Jazz Ensemble of 14 students will perform various swing jazz numbers and some uptempo and comical Christmas songs.

Selections by the Guitar Ensemble, led by adjunct instructor Mark Arnold, include "Valses Poéticos," a collection of waltzes by Spanish composer Enrique Granados and "La Fille Aux Cheveux de Lin" (The Girl with Linen Hair) by French composer Claude Debussy.

The Winter Concert is free and open to the public.

Outstanding Talent and Performances in our Backyard! (We are NOT just about the day programs)

Did you know that Cobblestone Arts Center runs a day program for adults with disabilities, an arts after school program, community classes in visual art, music, dance and theater, and is home to the region's newest community theater group, The Cobblestone Players?

That's right! All under one roof, (the newest roof houses a beautiful 125-seat theater, lobby and art gallery), community members are welcome to experience the arts in multiple ways. The Medicaid Waivered Day Program, designed for adults with disabilities, runs from Monday-Friday 9am-2pm, and is arts-based and performance driven. Quarterly performances are free and open to the public.

In the evenings the place is a-buzz with fitness classes offered by the crew at Canandaigua Fitness, Suzuki violin lessons from Lyric Arts Academy, and a myriad of activities ranging from rehearsals for upcoming shows, salsa dance lessons, private music instruction, and more! The Center is a true hub for the community and is welcoming to all.

If you haven't yet seen a show, check out www.cobblestoneartscenter.com and see what interests you. There's something for everyone this holiday season!

Need a unique gift idea? Give the gift of live performance! Season subscriptions are both affordable and charitable at the same time! Proceeds from all ticket sales benefit Cobblestone's Celebrating the Arts Day Program for adults with disabilities. That's two gifts in one!

It is the start of cold days and skin starts looking rough and dry. If you are one of the many people who get dry scaly skin, consider Gloves in a Bottle. Conventional lotions attempt to replace natural moisture with artificial moisture. The problem is the lotion comes off when you wash or touch something. Gloves in a Bottle is different as it bonds with the outer layer of skin to turn it into what works like an invisible pair of gloved. These "invisible gloves" keep the moisture robbing irritants out while helping to retain you skin's own natural moisture, resulting in skin that is better hydrated than what is achieved by conventional lotions. Gloves in a Bottle is virtually undetectable once dry lasing for four hours or more.
Stop down to The Medicine Shoppe and see why people are switching to Gloves in a Bottle.
