Happy Friday Hope!
Summertime and the livin' is easy!
George and Ira Gershwin
I don't know about you, but the first week of summer at our house has been anything but easy! Don't get me wrong. I love it! At the same time there's a new rhythm and routine and a lot of change and the number of people who love change are few and far between!
God is someone who seems to love change.
One of the key verses for us at Hope Ankeny has always been Isaiah 43:19: "For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!"
I wonder what new thing God will want to do in your life this summer? There are all kinds of ministries at Hope to help you get connected and provide opportunities for your faith to grow.
This weekend at worship will be looking at Galatians 5 and the fruit of the Spirit. As our faith grows, we begin to develop a family resemblance - more and more all the time we look and think and act like Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18).
I saw a tweet recently that said anyone who volunteers for Vacation Bible School at their church is basically signing up for a week-long mission trip in their home town. That's a powerful way to look at it. Vacation Bible School at Hope (July 23-27) is one of the primary ways each year we reach out to our community and share the love of Jesus.
The Phase II Team
continues to meet with the architect and think about the best way to expand and our current facility to allow us to continue to grow into the mission and vision God has for Hope Ankeny.
It's summertime and things are moving faster than ever at Hope Ankeny!
Some staff updates I want to be sure you know. Dan Frohwein has resigned from his role as Operations Director at Hope Ankeny. Dan has been an incredibly hard worker and enthusiastic ambassador for Hope. He tells me his plan is to worship at Hope so you'll see him around and I hope you'll thank him for his service.
I'm very excited to announce a couple new people who will be joining the staff of Hope Ankeny later this summer.
+ Pete Smith - Youth and Family Director.
Pete is an Iowan. He served for two years at Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp, seven years as a student ministry director at a church in the Denver, CO area, and since 2012 as Program Director at Bear Creek Camp outside of Wilkes Barre, PA. Pete will help lead the five staff members we have in Youth and Family Ministry. They'll be working together to help us reach the thousands of young people in this community who need to know God's love. Pete is married to Marta and they have one son, Beck.
Here's a picture of the family and a picture that shows you a bit of Pete's personality. He says Marta lets him have a mustache for two months each year. (The BEST two months of the year!)
+ Kyle Rex - Worship Arts Director.
Kyle is also coming from Pennsylvania. He's been the Worship Arts Director at a church in State College since 2013. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Church Music from North Central University in Minneapolis, Kyle has been leading worship in churches and at conferences since 2004. His wife Lydia's father is a Lutheran pastor in the Midwest and they're excited to be closer to home, and a part of what God is doing at Hope! Kyle and Lydia have two children, Julia and Eric.
Nope, there's never a dull moment at Hope! God is constantly on the move.
