Happy Friday Hope!
I don't know about you but I've really been enjoying our current sermon series
We've been walking through the first book of the Bible and using a different TV show each week to connect us and our lives to the lives of the men, women and families we read about in Genesis: "Breaking Bad," "Arrested Development," "Lost," "This Is Us," "The Crown."
This weekend we'll finish the series. We'll use the show "Mad Men" to dig into the lives of Joseph and his brothers and God's dream for our lives.
Just to be clear, we aren't doing this series to get you to watch more TV! Part of the reason Jesus comes is to help us see more clearly
(see Mark 8:22-26)
. There's all sorts of ways God is at work opening our eyes to the love, grace and life God wants for us. If the church can help you start to notice God in the everyday, ordinary things of life, that's a huge win. How amazing is it that God can encounter you in scripture, worship, prayer and in a conversation with a friend, or a story line of one of your favorite TV shows? The real question is are you expecting to encounter God? Are you watching for the ways your faith intersects with your life?
That's a big part of what
is all about - taking 40 days to intentionally be alert to the ways God is moving in our lives and in the world around us. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 14) with worship services at
Noon, 5:00 and 6:30 pm in Ankeny
at other Hope campuses.
Keep up the great work, and see you around Hope!
