This Weekend at Hope:
The Heart of Hope | Church Family Values | Romans 1:16-17
Hello Hope Des Moines!

"Power...got the power...God's love is the power!" That's the VBS song my kids have been singing all week, and I'm guessing hundreds of other kids on our community have as well! We're still basking in the glow of an incredible week of seeing over 250 kids and adults from our community experience, a mid-summer revival through the power of the Holy Spirit! Be sure to check out the VBS highlight video on our Facebook page HERE for a glimpse of what took place!

As we move forward in the joy of VBS, I wanted to remind us all of what I shared at the end of my message this past weekend. For us, the point of VBS isn't to have a one-time-a-year event, then get passive in our outreach to kids and youth the rest of the year. Ministry is done in large events, but it's also done in the streets, in homes, in relationships all throughout the year. As we read in John 1:14:  "The Word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood." (MSG) Jesus lived and did ministry among people, meeting them where they're at.

So this fall, we'll continue our ministry to kids in several ways. First, through our Christ-centered weekend children's program HopeKids. As we announced this past weekend, we're excited to offer HopeKids at our Saturday 5:00 pm service beginning Sept. 8. If you have kids and haven't checked out the Saturday service, we encourage you to do so and bring your kids! As we continue to grow, the need for Children's Team members grows as well. If you are willing to serve once a month on Sundays or Saturday nights, please let us know at info@hopedesmoines.org.

We also know that there are hundreds of kids on our neighborhoods who, for a variety of reasons, may never come to worship or have their parents lead them spiritually. They have specific educational, spiritual, and family needs. For these reasons, we're excited to kick off our fourth year of Whiz Kidz, our after-school mentoring program for kids in kindergarten - grade 5 on Thursday nights. If you're interested in serving as a mentor, or donating or serving food for the weekly meal, contact Chris.Kimpston@hopedesmoines.org.

To further our outreach to kids in our city, during the next few weeks, we are collecting school supplies to fill hundreds of backpacks for kids in need this fall! The donations will go to elementary schools right here in our community. Check out the shopping list HERE, and return to the drop off at worship by Sunday, Aug. 12.

Finally, with fall just around the corner, it's not too early to start thinking about your next step to grow in your faith. Save these dates for great opportunities coming up:
Registration for Alpha and Core 3 opens on Saturday, Aug. 11 here.

Have I told you lately that you're a great church? I can't wait to see you all this weekend for worship on Saturday at 5:00 pm or Sunday at 9:15 or 11:00 am as we continue our "Heart of Hope" series to dig into our CORE values as a church. Bring a friend and we'll see you there!
