This Weekend at Hope:
What Are You Wearing? | The Forgiveness Factor | Colossians 3:12-17
Hello Hope Des Moines!
One of the things we're most passionate about at Hope is being the church for people who have grown disillusioned or disinterested with the local church. Because of this, when it comes to sensitive (or "hot-button" topics), we try to speak about them with much wisdom, authenticity, and most importantly by simply pointing people to God's Word. When it comes money and the church, this is certainly one of those times.
This past weekend we began our three-week re-commitment campaign called "Building Hope Together," as we continue to support the purchase and build-out of our current facility, clearing up space in our budget for the immediate needs of future growth and expansion of our facilities. If you weren't able to make it to worship this past weekend, I would encourage you to listen to the podcast of the message HERE, or watch the video about God's work through Hope Des Moines HERE.

Now, because of many people's various experiences with how money has been handled in the church, I understand there are those who would rather just not talk about money at all. The trouble is, the Bible does... a lot. And so does Jesus. Not because money is bad, but because how we handle money points directly to the condition of our hearts, which is what he's most concerned about anyway. In that sense, this campaign is for all of us.
Last weekend, we discovered that this campaign is not simply about giving financially, but rediscovering a Biblical view of our finances, and how becoming generous people with our time, talents, and treasures is actually a vital spiritual discipline. This weekend, I'm excited to dive deeper into God's heart for generosity, and how that leads to hearts that explode with joy, and big dreams for the kingdom!
As a reminder, commitment cards are available at worship the next two weekends, as well as online at We will then have a special processional offering on re-commitment weekend at worship on Nov. 19-20. For all the latest information and to learn how you can get involved, visit
Finally, it was a sobering week for churches around the country with the news of the tragic shooting at a local church in Texas. As we've had to do so many times this past year, we grieve and pray for the families of the victims, as well as the whole church which was affected. We pray, and we also take action. We encourage you to ask God how he might lead you to be an agent of change for those areas of our nation and world that are broken. We also want to remind you that we take the safety of our church family here at Hope with the utmost concern and intentionality. Know that we continue to work with local officials, staff, and volunteers to make sure that we are equipped to respond in any situation that would come our way.
And, at the end of the day, my challenge to you is simply this: remember. Remember where our hope is found. Remember that we have nothing to fear. Remember that
death is not the end of the story because Jesus is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25). That's what it means to be the church after all! And that's why we're in the middle of a re-commitment campaign. Because people need to know the soul-satisfying hope of Jesus Christ!
Looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday or Sunday!
