This Weekend at Hope:  The Summer of Acts | When in Rome | Acts 28:1-6
Hello Hope Des Moines!
Many people refer to these days in mid-August as the "dog days" of summer. Apparently it's the time when it's easy to lay around and be lazy because the summer is dragging on. I can't think of anything more opposite in terms of the way this summer has gone at Hope Des Moines! Sure, many of us have taken time off, gone on vacation, or at least had a change of pace from the school year (and rightly so, we are commanded to rest!), but it's been anything but lazy around here in terms of kingdom impact!
This past week, we had an informational meeting for our Whiz Kidz ministry, reaching out to kids in need here in the neighborhood. Thanks to a great turnout and many of your faithful, ongoing commitment, we'll be launching Whiz Kidz again on Thursday nights beginning Sept. 21. For a listing of ways to get involved, click HERE.
As I write, over 50 leaders from our church, the community, and local businesses and ministries are experiencing the Global Leadership Summit here at Hope Des Moines for the first time! It's been a great way to build bridges with leaders in our community and grow in our leadership!
Next, this Sunday from noon - 3:00 pm, join us at Raccoon River Park for our 7th annual "Baptisms at the River" event. There will be food until 1:00 pm, then we begin a short baptism class, followed by dozens of people planning to be baptized into Christ. Everyone is welcome to come learn, be baptized, or just cheer on your brothers and sisters!
Finally, I want to say a HUGE thank you to all those who are helping support our annual back to school supply drive. The past two weeks you've taken enough supply lists to fill over 200 backpacks for kids in our neighborhood going back to school this fall! Praise God! Don't forget to bring back your baggies full of supplies by Sunday, Aug. 20.
And that's just the highlights! Well, so much for laziness. God's on the move around here! Join us this weekend for worship (Saturday at 5:00 pm or Sunday at 9:15 or 11:00 am), and bring a friend! See you there!
