U.S. and World Report Ranks SOLES 91st of 850 Schools of Education

U.S. News and World Report released its 2014 Best Graduate Schools rankings on March 12, 2013, rating SOLES in the top 11 percent of graduate schools of education. Of the 850 schools, the publication ranked SOLES 91st.

"This is quite an honor," said Dean Paula Cordeiro.  "It is one piece of evidence that SOLES is making significant progress, so we are very pleased."

SOLES Wraps Up 40th Anniversary

Steve is a certified advanced job transition coach and an adjunct professor, teaching organizational leadership and business management at Brandman University of the Chapman University System.

ELDA Spotlight Series- Jason Ohler

 

Best-selling author, educator, and futurist Dr. Jason Ohler presented "New Media, New Students - New Literacies, New Citizens." Dr. Ohler discussed how educators may help students become active media creators, critical media consumers and engaged digital citizens by using technology effectively, creatively, wisely and safely.

 

On March 21, Dr. Paul Kim, the chief technology officer at Stanford University's School of Education will present the next Spotlight Series event: "Causing a Paradigm Shift in the Global Education Ecosystem."  For more information, please visit the Spotlight on Education Web site.

SOLES' Mobile Technology Learning Center has made news for its evaluation and impact on teaching in the Encinitas Union School District. View the article HERE.

This is just the beginning! Construction will soon begin on the Teaching Innovation Studio, which will create an ideal functional space for mobile work and a laboratory for K-12 practitioners to actively learn and explore through meetings and workshops. Justice Sotomayor Visits USD

 

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor visited USD to speak about and read excerpts from her new book My Beloved World to a sold out audience of more than 600 people at Shiley Theatre this January.

 

The first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice spoke about her childhood, family and her rise to the Supreme Court. She then took questions from the audience. To read more coverage of the event, click HERE.

 

Dean Cordeiro hosted a wine and cheese reception for donors and friends who attended the event.

Intersession 2013 Global Study Courses

Drs. Rose Martinez and Lea Hubbard traveled with 18 students to Chile for their course International Education and Social Change. Part of the course included attending the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI) conference.  

Guatemala
 
Dr. Mary McDonald, traveling with seven students, led the Nonprofit in a Civil Society course in Guatemala over the intersession. The class visited many nonprofit organizations that work locally to provide education, jobs, and mental health services in the aftermath of the country's brutal civil war.

Adolfo Gonzales, EdD '96 has been named the Chief of the San Diego District Attorney's Bureau of Investigation.

Halyna Kornuta, EdD '01 is the Provost Accreditation Liason Officer at John Paul the Great Catholic University.

 

Darren Kasai, MA '01 is the Executive Director of the Alberta Heartland Primary Care Network. He has also recently served the U.S. Navy Reserves in tours to Germany and South Korea.
