School of Rock
Chock Full of Rockschooly Goodness
It's been a VERY busy month!
Here's a bit of what's keeping the groove going strong!
Holy Cow!  WJLA's Good Morning Washington Came and Broadcasted from our Vienna SOR!

Thursday July 27th, Eileen Whalen came to our school to do a live feed during their morning show.  She and her crew were blown away by our school and really showed what we are all about.  Kudos to Abbie and Carly who did a great job in their interviews. and to Rachna for repping our parents.  Thank you to Mayor Laurie DiRocco for coming and all the nice words too!

If  you missed it Click the link below to see the segment, which includes a performance by our House Band and campers, as well as all the interviews with our incredible students, parents, and staff! Our campers RULE! S O. MUCH. FUN!! What a great morning we had!

Shout out to Connor and Mary Hitchcock who were at the festivities and spoke about their new School of Rock that has opened in Haymarket!  We wish them much success!

BOOT CAMPS, POP DIVA, AND ROCK 101 CAMPS have been going strong since July. We have been rockin' all summer long with some seeeerrriiioously amazing campers. These kids have been diving into music and learning songs and having fun and then giving incredibly strong Friday performances. We love our campers!  See more photos here
The road is an integral part of rock and roll so off we go each summer!  Our touring young musicians get to have an immersive musical experience where they get on a tour bus, play lots of gigs, hang out, and have a blast. We celebrated our tenth anniversary this year by heading out July 12th thru 17th on out on our Ten Summers Tour and created a "mixed" band from all three of our area schools with 21 kids hitting the road. Stops included Downingtown, PA, Mt.Vernon, NY, Philly, Long Island and NYC.  These guys have had an experience that they will remember for a lifetime.

Many thanks to our intrepid chaperones! We cannot do what we do without our amazing Rocker Parents! Craig Heizer, Chris Brooks and Kim Greenlee from our Vienna SOR all kept things rolling!  And ADDITIONAL HUGE THANKS to our awesome mom Kim Greenlee who should go into tour coordinating for a living as she pulled together hotels and transportation like a boss.  Where will we go next year???  Check the video!
Our House Band had the opportunity to share the stage last Tuesday, July 25th with surrounding sister school and our national touring School of Rock Allstars. They gave an outstanding performance!

The Allstars are chosen through a rigourous audiiton process and represent less than 1% of all the students in the School of Rock world-wide.  In the summer they embark on a multi-day tour, play on legendary stages and at major festivals like MoPop, Red Rocks and Lollapalooza.  Stay tuned for next month's issue when we will hear from Vienna Allstar Will Izdepski about his experience on the road this summer!

And be sure to mark your calendars for upcoming House Band gigs so you can support our young musicians!
Student Spotlight and Farewell...
It's so hard, to say goodbye! Three amazing School of Rock Vienna Students are moving out of the area, and we would like to wish them well. They will always be a part of our SOR family and hope that they keep rocking for years to come!
Nikki Westphal - Singer, Guitarist, Keyboardist, Performance Program Student, Summer Camp Intern, and House Band Member extraordinaire! Nikki has done it all. She and her family are moving to Michigan.
Tomas "Massi" Bannister - Massi & Izzy started off with us in Summer Camp last year, and jumped right into the Performance Program. They are moving to North Carolina and will be attending the School of Rock Chapel Hill. They will most definitely add to their new school and of course Massi will show them how to rock a proper Mohawk!
