Scarsdale Village Budget
Does Not Address 800 Pound Gorilla
|
It is good to see a Scarsdale Village budget that finally holds tax rates constant in inflation-adjusted terms. It is disappointing that the 800 pound gorilla of tax reform was somehow unnoticed by those who prepared the
2018-2019 Budget
and no ideas were suggested for reducing municipal spending and restoring our effective tax rates toward pre-tax reform levels.

Consultants State that 50% of Scarsdale Roads Are in Fair or Poor Condition
Today at 6pm Village Hall shared with a number of VCP members that a study was commissioned last year to determined the current condition of Scarsdale Roads. Thus far, we only have 2 pages of the report. We are unclear why although the report was sent to the Village engineer on November 28, 2017, reportedly the Mayor and Trustees only received it in March 2018. The two pages are
here
.
Both last year and earlier this year, former Trustee Candidate Robert Berg wrote about the poor condition of
Scarsdale roads and his plan to resolve this problem. "
An important part of the Scarsdale Voters Choice Platform (VCP) is making infrastructure investments a key priority. The state of the Village-owned roads in Scarsdale is atrocious, and an important part of the VCP platform calls for an accelerated program to strategically repair Scarsdale’s roads."

Scarsdale Mayor Resurrects
Punitive Tree Code on Easter Monday
At the March 13 Public Hearing, 11 residents presented well-reasoned, impassioned objections to the proposed Tree Preservation ordinance. Not a single resident spoke in favor of the Tree Preservation ordinance. Yet, the mayor is insistent in getting this code passed. The next hearing on the
tree code
is on April 26 at 8pm at Village Hall.

The Citizens Nominating Committee Needs Serious Reform
It is high time to reform significantly how the CNC operates. I encourage all Scarsdale residents to be engaged in how our village is run. How Village Hall operates greatly influences our daily lives and significantly impacts the amount of taxes that our great schools can count on.

Your Comments Are Requested
Scarsdale School District
The Scarsdale School Administration and Board of Education want to hear from you about the Butler Field renovation.
There is $1.2 million in the proposed 2018-19 budget for Butler Field and the track. The Board of Education is in the midst of a process to decide the best surface for the renovated field. The Board and Administration have been gathering and continue to gather data about the options for synthetic turf infill, the field's usage for the school and community, and the various costs and benefits of synthetic versus natural turf. The decision of what material to use will impact the amount of money needed for the project.
The Board will meet on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 6:00 P.M. in Rooms 170-72 at the High School. Please join to hear more about the data and information regarding Butler Field. You can email any thoughts and questions to the
