Friendship Bucket

The Inviting Team offers a way for you to greet new residents in your neighborhood and invite their awareness of our church. It is a Friendship, or Hospitality Bucket. Buckets will be available at the welcome center, or cards you can place in ones you make on your own.

The card says, "Welcome to Your Home" and explains the contents of the bucket:
A sponge that the house may always        be clean
A loaf of bread that there may  always        be food  upon your table
Sugar that there may be sweetness
    abounding
Salt that there may be some spice
    in living

Items will be provided except for the bread you will need to provide on your own. Again, you may want to provide all the items yourself, but do include the card available at the welcome center.

The other side of the card includes church information. This is a simple  way to offer warm welcome to the community, and to
our church.

"A bee is never as busy as it seems; it's just that it can't buzz any slower." (Kim Hubbard, American journalist)

I don't know what to do with that quote, except to say that First Farragut needs wings. These hot days of July with all sorts of winged creatures, active day and night, is a good time to announce that our Nominations and Leadership Development Team (NLD) will soon be convened to begin our work discerning ministry leaders for 2019. At the church we need buzz!

A lot of already busy people will be asked to assume places of responsibility. It is no trouble for any of us to find enough to keep busy. The real question is, "Where will we be busy, and for whom?" Are we busy enough for God to use? Will we be busy about Kingdom business?

There are many areas of service that happen informally and regularly as persons volunteer, but there is a leadership structure of officers, and ministry and administrative teams and committees, that make up the church council. Members of the NLD Team are charged with filling those positions, approved at a Fall Charge Conference. The current list of officers, and committee and team leaders, can be found on the FFUMC website, using this link.

Note that three panels of 2018 rotate off at the end of this year. Filling the panels who serve through 2021, and adjustments in the other areas, are the focus of our work.

We will organize soon, but first want to know how you would like to serve. I'll be delighted to receive your responses, or as NLD Team members invite, please say, "I will, by God's help."

Help the church fly!

HELPING WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES
School Supplies will be collected until July 22.
On Sunday, please pick up a bag with a list of grade appropriate school supplies for needy children. Please leave the colored list in the bag.
These bags are due back on Sunday, July 22.

They will be distributed to children at our Mobile Pantry  on Saturday, July 28. We usually serve 400 children at this give-away so please help these children get a good start to the new school year.
The Truck is Coming!
Mobile Pantry Food Giveaway
with Central UMC on Saturday, July 28

FFUMC and Central UMC will distribute a Second Harvest truckload of food on Saturday, July 28 at Central UMC, 301 Hickory Creek Road, Lenoir City. We will also distribute school supplies, gently used coats and children's clothing from Wesley's Attic. Last July we served 250+ families in Loudon, Knox and surrounding counties.

For this pantry, we are collecting 1 lb. canned hams and 12 oz. cans of chicken  until
Sunday, July 22
to add to the protein in our grocery carts. Please bring your donation  to the altar this or next Sunday. We will transport it to Central for the July 28 Mobile Pantry.

We need congregational helpers on both Friday, July 27, and  Saturday, July 28, but especially on Friday afternoon, 1:00-3:00 p.m. to move clothing totes to Central, and Saturday, 11:00-Noon to return totes and tables to FFUMC.

Please sign up on  Realm or stop by the missions table to sign up for a shift. Mobile Pantry is a family-friendly ministry. We celebrate our partnership with Central; you will meet new friends in Christ, support our neighbors in need, and receive a blessing!
Calling for Coats

It's time to clean out winter closets, and Wesley's Attic and the Serving Team appreciate donations of coats, hoodies, and coat-drive-man.jpg fleeces in all sizes for our Mobile Pantry Giveaway Saturday, July 28th. The Coat Box will be out on Main Street next to the Missions Table. Please bring your donations by Sunday so  that we can sort and  prepare them for the 28th.

Youth Mission Trip

The youth group from  First Farragut United Methodist Church  in Tennessee are visiting us this week for their summer mission trip!

Day 1: the youth spent time getting to know the p eople
we serve. They had fun playing games, doing crafts and dancing in the gym
together!  We are so  thankful that these young people want to share the love of Jesus with Wesley Glen Ministries!
