HOW TO APPLY FOR AFFORDABLE
HOUSING LOTTERIES!

Dear Friends & Neighbors:

I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to utilize housing resources through the Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of New York City, which enable families to navigate the lottery system successfully . If you are interested in landing an affordable rent-stabilized apartment, it is vital that you attend the NHS's How to Apply for Affordable Housing Lotteries meeting on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 6pm-8pm at the Dweck Auditorium at 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238

The housing lottery system is becoming more important to a city entrenched in an ever growing housing crisis, but here are some tips on utilizing this system:

1) Remain diligent and do not falsify any information on your application. You can easily get disqualified in this manner.

2) It is good to apply for projects near where you live. Preference is often given to people residing in the neighborhood of the community board where a project is planned.

3) Duplicating your lottery submission will not increase your odds, because the system uses algorithms. Subsequently, this can get you disqualified.

4) If you are a municipal employee you can get preference. Five percent of affordable and middle-income housing is reserved for municipal employees.
