The correct medical term for Attention Deficit Disorder is ADHD. There are 3 subtypes of ADHD: Predominantly inattentive(commonly called ADD), Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and Combined. Through out this newsletter and the ADHD relates sites linked from this newsletter the terms ADHD, AD/HD, and ADD are used interchangeably.
Staying Focused on one Thing at a Time

Do you find it just about impossible to stay focused on just one thing at time? If you do, you are NOT alone and believe me I can relate! Writing and preparing to send out this newsletter brought my mind in so many different directions and it's been a huge challenge to get completed. I have so many things going on that I want to share with you, my readers.

Sometimes I just go with the flow of how my brain works but sometime I NEED to slow down and find a logical way to get things completed 1 at time. Multitasking really doesn't work. When I pretend it does I just end up with a bunch of things going on at once and very little progress on each of them.

I've found a simple system that works for me when I have a lot of trouble focusing on just 1 thing. I thought it might be helpful to some of my readers. So I am sharing it with you.

My system to Focus on 1 Item at time:

1 Stop and Take a Few Deep Breaths

2. Write Down the items I want or need to get done

3. Choose 1 Item to Focus on

4. Set a Timer for 5 Minutes

5. Work on the Item for 5 Minutes

6. Evaluate the my progress

7. Repeat Process

This works well for me. Depending on what I'm working on I may adjust my time block to 10 or 15 minutes. I usually start with a 5 minute block because I know my mind is able to focus that long. Evaluating my progress is VERY important and allows me to choose how much more time I want or need to focus on an item. It also allows me to choose to move on to a different item.

It's my hope that sharing this was helpful to you. Even if my system isn't a good fit for you, I hope it it may give you some ideas to work with or spark your mind to come up with your own system.
