Meet Your Bankers
Melissa Herron
Melissa Herron has been in banking for over 12 years.  She started her career as a teller at Standard Federal.  Over time, along with her hard work and dedication, she was promoted to other areas including member service and financial service.  In 2007, she joined the Huron Valley State Bank team as a customer service representative, and was quickly promoted to the Teller Supervisor and is now the Assistant Branch Manager of Highland.

As the Assistant Branch Manager, she is responsible for ensuring the branch runs smoothly.  This means the customers are given the highest level of service and the staff is properly trained.  One of the most enjoyable aspects of her job is working with customers.  Melissa frequently opens accounts and helps with any financial needs.  She is also responsible for cash management and other operational areas of the bank.

"I love the philosophy of the bank; what we do for each other, the community and our customers.  I love being able to provide great service to our customers because we are not bogged down by out of touch policies and procedures.  Everyone involved in this bank knows the local climate and I love being part of our community," said Melissa.

Sometimes referred to as "Mel" or "M", Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters.  She is an avid outdoors-woman and spends her summers camping, hiking and swimming.  She also loves to read.  She has read every Nora Roberts, Dean Koontz and Nicholas Sparks book.  Also interestingly to note, both she and her daughter were recently in a commercial for Spartan Stores that ended up airing during the Tigers Games.
While ID Thieves Are At Work
We Are Working Harder

Did you know that identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in the United States? Many thieves rely on the internet, telephones and even your trash as a means of stealing your identity and your money. While thieves are hard at work, Huron Valley State Bank is too. We have partnered with smsGuardian to provide an extra layer of protection from identity theft and fraud. Also our credit cards have a similar feature.

By recognizing fraud or identity theft immediately after a transaction has occurred, reduces the chance that further unauthorized use of your card will take place. By enrolling in these free* services you can be assured that your identity and money is being protected.

For your debit card, the fraud center will contact you by text message each time your card is used for the following activity:

  •  Purchases greater than $300
  •  Purchases that occur out of state
  •  5 or more transactions in 24 hours
  •  Fuel or service station transactions

If the transaction is legitimate, you need not reply. If it is fraudulent, you may reply by text and your card will be blocked from further activity.

For your credit card, we have a similar system in place. By providing your mobile phone number, it will alert you when suspicious activity has occurred. To enroll in these free* services go to www.hvsb.com/text-alerts.

Please note: Data and message rates may apply. Please check with your carrier.

Data Breaches: Protect Your Information and Money
Banks are national leaders in preserving the security of customer data. The industry dedicates hundreds of millions of dollars annually to data security, and adheres to strict regulatory and network requirements. The banking industry's first priority is to protect consumers and make them whole.

In the event of a data breach:
  • Report any suspected fraud to your bank immediately.
  • Use online banking to protect yourself. Monitor your financial accounts regularly for fraudulent transactions. Sign up for text or email alerts from your bank for certain types of transactions, such as online purchases or transactions of more than $500.
  • Beware of phishing scams. Never give out personal financial information in an email or over the phone unless you have initiated the contact
  • Monitor your credit report. Order a free copy of your credit report every four months from one of the three credit reporting agencies at annualcreditreport.com.

If you suspect your identity has been stolen:

  • Call your bank and credit card issuers immediately so they can start working on closing your accounts and clearing your name.
  • File a police report and call the fraud unit of three credit-reporting companies. The fraud unit numbers are:
    TransUnion  (800) 680-7289
    Experian  (888) 397-3742
    Equifax   (800) 525-6285
  • Consider placing a victim statement in your credit report.
  • Make sure to maintain a log of all the contacts you make with authorities regarding the matter. Write down names, titles, and phone numbers in case you need to re-contact them or refer to them in future correspondence.

Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of success.
