Huron Valley State Bank Receives the Carls Family YMCA Community Service Award |

Huron Valley State Bank received the Carls Family YMCA Community Service Award. This award is the first of its kind, and was given at the Carls Family YMCA inaugural "Power of You" luncheon on Thursday, August 14.
"This year we wanted to do something different. We wanted to serve and honor our community," said Sharon Peterson, Carls Family YMCA Community and Financial Development Director. "The Bank supported the YMCA Annual Campaign at a major donor level and sponsored several of our events. The bank is supporting the AMP project, Milford Rotary, Milford Memories, Women's Enrichment Day, Business to Business Expo, Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, Earth Day, Huron Valley Council of the Arts, Milford 30 K Labor Day Run, and we all remember the ice cream from the 4th of July Parade. They truly know what it is to support the communities where they do business".
"We are incredibly honored to receive this award as it truly represents our culture of giving back to our community," said Jack Shubitowski, President and CEO of Huron Valley State Bank. "This award wouldn't have been possible without the support and participation of our employees and directors."
Throughout the year, employees of Huron Valley State Bank have the opportunityto volunteer for numerous community events. The bank also has a "Casual For a Cause" program where employees can wear jeans the last Friday of the month in exchange for a donation to a community organization. |

Cecilia Tomasi |

Cecilia Tomasi started part time at Huron Valley State Bank in August of 2011. She has a very important role at the bank serving as a CSR, Customer Service Representative. She is responsible for helping customers with their banking transactions. She opens accounts, attends to the vault and ATM, works on special cases such as overdrawn, closed and dormant accounts, some reporting and auditing. Her smiling face will be seen at the Highland Branch and sometimes at the Highland BNI meetings.
In 2012, she was promoted to a full time position which allows her to work with more customers on a weekly basis. "I love working at HVSB, I wake up each morning excited about coming to work," said Cecilia. Fondly referred to as "Cecilia Rose," or "Cece" by her customers, to have a successful day she needs to have exactly two HVSB pens of every color except yellow in her teller window. Her favorite sport is hockey, and her favorite team is the Red Wings. She enjoys reading, crochet and walking nature trails. |

When was paper money first printed in the U.S.?
The U.S. Department of the Treasury first issued paper U.S. currency in 1862 to make up for the shortage of coins and to finance the Civil War. There was a shortage of coins because people had started hoarding them; the uncertainty caused by the war had made the value of items fluctuate drastically. Because coins were made of gold and silver their value didn't change much, so people wanted to hang onto them rather than buy items that might lose their value.
What denominations of bills were first printed?
The first paper notes were printed in denominations of 1 cent, 5 cents, 25 cents, and 50 cents.
How long does money last?
That depends on the denomination of the note. A $1 bill lasts 18 months; $5 bill, two years; $10 bill, three years; $20 bill, four years; and $50 and $100 bills, nine years. Bills that get worn out from everyday use are taken out of circulation and replaced.
