HYACKS WIN BIG ON HOMECOMING PRESENTED BY KEY WEST FORD

Homecoming 2017 was another huge success, as the Hyacks celebrated their 15 year anniversary in style, with a 42-14 win over Mission. Over  2000 fans turned out at Mercer Stadium, for the pre-game party and all of the annual Homecoming festivities.

Sebastien Reid scored the first 3 TDs of the game for the Hyacks, including a pair of receptions and a punt return. He would also add an interception in the first half. Sammy Sidhu, Finn Stark and Michael Kingsley also scored, while Kinsale Philip tied a school record by throwing 3 TD passes (9 of 11 for 200 yds). Defensively Sidhu finished with 9 tackles.

New West improved to 2-1 on the season and will open league play on Sept 22nd at Mt Douglas Secondary in Victoria. Hyacks Football would like to thank Key West Ford, media sponsor the New Westminster Record, along with all other sponsors and volunteers who made Homecoming 2017 another memorable event.

JV HYACKS TIE AFTER 4TH QUARTER HEROICS

Ok, call it a Comeback... The JV Hyacks fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter, but would come back to tie Seaquam 14-14 last Thursday. Mahtab Garcha got the Hyacks on the board before halftime, before Taran Birdi scored on a QB sneak with 29 seconds left on the clock. Himat Garcha tied the game be scoring on the 2-point convert. Other impressive performances came from Greyson Planinsic rushing the ball and Dominic Racher on both sides of the ball. Next up for the JVs: another home game this Thursday against Kelowna.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

JR BANTAM:
The Hyacks fell 22-0 at North Surrey on Sunday, but despite the loss there were a number of solid performances. Defensively Ethan Bresser and Lucas Steele stood out, while Umayr Afendy was able to gain the edge on a couple of runs. Jacob MacCumber and Jordan Baba continued their consistent play.

ATOM:
In an exhibition game that was a late addition to the schedule, the Atoms fell 43-37 to North Surrey. Eli Smith played the full game at QB and executed the offense well. Nicolas Panasar was dominant running the football, with 3 TDs, Mateo Mcdonell and Daniel Penalver also scored. The offensive line was again stellar, with Meva and Waris Virk turning in much improved performances.

ATOM FLAG:
The Atom flag team won its first game, 18-0 over the GSL 49ers. Jett Abel ran for a TD, returned a punt for a TD and threw a pass to AJ Meltzer who made a great catch over his head for the final TD. The defense worked as a unit with max efforts from Justin Wang, Kai Lewin and Nickolas Weeks.

Congratulations to the winners of the Punt, Pass & Kick competition!

Flag: Owen Coelho
