HYACK FOOTBALL IN THE ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOLS

On February 28th members of the NWSS Football program took park in Anti-Bullying Day activities with presentations in four elementary schools. The presentations were focused on cyber-bullying and were well received by the young students and staff alike.

In April, we will begin our week-long PE classes football units at every elementary and middle school in the city. From there the highly successful middle school tackle football program will begin with teams at all three middle schools. Practices will start on April 9th and the kickoff jamboree will take place on April 27th at Mercer Stadium.

SIX MORE HYACKS EARN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Six more Hyacks are on their way to play college football this fall. Isaiah James, Sebastien Reid, Lucas Sabau, Sammy Sidhu and Finn Stark are members of the 2018 graduating class that have signed letters of intent. Rochon Bhattacharya, a member of the 2016 NWSS graduating class, who has spent the past 2 years at West Hills Jr College, has also signed with Simon Fraser University as a transfer student. This brings the total number of Hyacks who will have been given an opportunity to play college football to 40 in the past 15 years.

Isaiah James, OL/DL, University of Saskatchewan:
Isaiah becomes the first ever NWSS football grad to sign with the University of Saskatchewan. He was exceptional on both sides of the line of scrimmage and was named to the Provincial All-star team. Defensively he finished with 27 tackles and 2 sacks.

Sammy Sidhu, LB/RB, University of Calgary:
Sammy heads to Calgary following a decorated 4-year career at NWSS. In 2017, he was named Provincial All-star and CFC 2nd team All-Canadian. He rushed for 1077 yards and 15 TDs this past season, adding 86 tackles and 2 QB sacks on defense. Sammy is also an exceptional student who earned scholarship offers from all of the top academic institutions in Canada. He plans to study engineering.

Sebastien Reid, DB/REC/KR, University of Calgary:
Sebastien made a huge impact in his only season at NWSS. He was named Provincial All-star and CFC 1st team All-Canadian. He managed 1862 all-purpose yards (752 rec, 200 rush, 910 ret) and 11 TDs. Defensively he added 30 tackles and led the province with 7 interceptions.

Lucas Sabau, RB, Simon Fraser University:
Lucas scored the 2 biggest points in Hyack history - the 2-point convert on the final play of the AAA Championship game. In two varsity seasons he rushed for 1677 yards and 15 TDs, earning Provincial All-star honors as a gr 11 in 2016. As a senior, he also played defense and added 26 tackles and 1 sack.

Finn Stark, TE, University of Toronto:
Finn came into his own as a blocker and a pass receiver as a senior, averaging 24.6 yards per reception (6 rec, 221 yards) and scoring 4 TDs. Finn has also been an exceptional student during his time at NWSS and was awarded the Sidoo Family Scholarship, for his academic and athletic achievement. He is the first NWSS football grad to sign with the U of Toronto, where he will study Kinesiology.
