Happy fall!
As we reminisce about the hot days of summer and its warm evenings, help us move into fall by improving the safety and appearance of Mozart Playground and the public parking lot, and putting mulch on our street trees along Centre Street. This will make us bling throughout the fall and into the winter.
And if you would like to learn more about what residents, visitors, and workers like about the neighborhood, please help us gather information as part of our Community Assets Mapping project.
Please read further on how you can help, and don't forget to register for the September 28 Small Business Resource Fair as detailed below.

Fall is the Time to Beautify Hyde & Jackson Squares
On Saturday, October 22 we will be prettying up Mozart Playground and the public parking lot at 350 -352 Centre Street (and making them more safe!) as well as spreading mulch and planting flowers in tree pits along Centre Street (there are more than 90 of them!). Enjoy some coffee, snacks, and camaraderie while getting dirty. Volunteers who invest their time and energy are important to refreshing our part of Centre Street to keep it a great place shop, eat, play, and just enjoy.
Our agenda for the day is an aggressive one so please help out and bring along some friends. Please RSVP your place with us at info@hydejacksonsquare.org.

Assets Mapping
At our Annual Meeting on March 8, we launched our year-long Community Assets Mapping project to gather information on positive attributes that enrich our neighborhood and relate to
The Main Street Four Point Approach®
of the National Main Street Center (design, economic development, promotions, organization). Once completed, the information collected will help our community understand the history, people, businesses, places, events, and organizations that have contributed positively to define Hyde & Jackson Squares.

Marking our assets along Centre Street at a public meeting. |
So far we have held two public meetings where we have discussed our community's important places, things, people, and organizations. On top of this, we have been collecting written surveys from residents, workers, and visitors at community events and on the street. We will also begin to research demographic data, history, and stories of people past and present.
Hyde Jackson Square Main Street is extremely excited to have launched this project and hope to be able to present our findings at our Annual Meeting this coming winter. In the upcoming months, we will be releasing information in this newsletter and elsewhere about what we have learned to date.
Our final report will be available for community groups to use as they wish. This report will not just sit on a shelf to gather dust. We'll use this information to develop plans to build our local economy on the backs of our "legacy" businesses, organizations, and people. Additionally, we will be able to identify themes that knit the community together to be used for infrastructure upgrades and streetscape design as well as for promotional events and campaigns.
The more information we collect, the better the plan will be. If you'd like to help us survey people on the street, compile data, do research, or perform some other activity, please contact us at info@hydejacksonsquare.org.

Hyde & Jackson Squares Business Map & Directory
Last spring at our Annual Sidewalk Sale, we re-introduced our neighborhood Business Map and Directory. This colorful, updated directory is based upon a design done in the early 2000s. We will continue to revise this regularly so that all of our businesses and neighborhood features are up-to-date.
You can find this map at many of your favorite merchants. However if you would like us to provide you with one or more, please contact us and we'd be happy to do so. .
