PROJECT UPDATE
February 2017
Construction Underway at I-64/I-264 Interchange
Work Advances on Phase I of Interchange Improvements

The photo above shows the double box culvert that crews installed near Kempsville Road in support of the project. The structure, which will be buried, will allow stormwater to flow to a relocated tidal channel.

I-64 West Nightly Lane Closures

Nightly double-lane closures near the Twin Bridges on I-64 west began in late February so crews can re-stripe the interstate and place a barrier wall on the shoulder to support construction activities.
  • These lane closures run from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • They may continue through 5 a.m. on March 9, depending on the weather, as extended dry weather is necessary for the work.
  • Crews will keep two lanes open during the closures, and all ramps will remain open.
  • Traffic must be shifted to accommodate the barrier wall, necessitating the re-striping work.

The blue line over I-64 west on this map indicates the approximate length of the lane closures:

I-264 East Nightly Lane Closures

A single right-lane closure on I-264 east is planned for two nights, March 8 and 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., near the Newtown Road exit.
