(Contact First Name),

Like many of you, I was devastated by the results of Tuesday's Presidential election.  I share the anxiety I've heard from so many people about how divided the country is and how we move forward.  But Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine reminded us that while we did not achieve the result we wanted, we still have work to do to advance the causes and values we cherish.

There were moments of hope Tuesday night.  My friend Senator Donald McEachin was elected to Congress, and we can look forward to him bringing his energy and commitment to social justice to Washington.

Senator McEachin's victory leaves a vacancy in the State Senate.  Soon, the Governor will call for a special election to fill that vacancy.  With the support of my family, I've made a decision that I want to share...

If elected to the State Senate, I will have an opportunity to build on my service in the House of Delegates to  provide a high quality public education system for every child, strong and safe neighborhoods, and economic opportunity for all Virginians.  We can turn our frustration over Tuesday's outcome into real results for our community - but I can't do it without your help.

The date and time of the Democratic nomination and Special Election has not yet been set, but it will happen quickly. More details will be forthcoming. The nomination will likely be an unassembled caucus, often referred to as a firehouse primary, open to all Democrats in the Ninth State Senate District.

Thank you for your support.
