I Want More: The Hub Offers Exciting New Adult Support Service

“Limitless.”  That’s how Shelley Zielinski describes Pine Tree Society’s new service: The Hub.  “It’s like nothing people have ever seen before.”

Zielinski is the Director of Adult Support Services at Pine Tree Society. “So often I hear people say ‘I wish I could’ or ‘I want more,’” said Zielinski. “Now, with The Hub they can.”

The Hub is a service designed for people to be able to do the things they want to do, when they want to do them. Unlike a typical day program where activities are organized during program hours, the concept behind The Hub is that individuals choose what they want to do in their community.

Why do People Paddle for Pine Tree Camp?
Why do people Paddle for Pine Tree Camp? All funds from the Bath Savings Institution Paddle for Pine Tree Camp go directly to the campership fund and help keep the open door policy firmly in place.

Last year, 99% of campers received full or partial scholarships. Since it began in 1945, no camper has ever been turned away due to inability to pay.

Every summer, about 650 people attend Pine Tree Camp. Anthony is one of those campers.  Anthony is 15 years old and first attended Pine Tree Camp as a day camper eight years ago. He’s been coming ever since.

“Anthony looks forward to going to Pine Tree Camp every year. It’s the highlight of his summer,” said his mother, Elizabeth.  “It makes me so happy because he gets to go away and have experiences he wouldn’t otherwise have.”

For Elizabeth, there’s no other opportunity like this for her son.

" It’s a place where Anthony can go and be himself,” she said. “He is welcomed no matter what and he feels like he fits in.  He loves fishing and the one-on-one trips with the guys.  He’s developed a lot of friendships.  This year he was crying when we left.  He said ‘I just want to live here.’”

By participating in the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp, you give people like Anthony the opportunity to attend Pine Tree Camp.
If you have any questions about The Hub or the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp, I'd love to hear from you.
