IAGB Directors Participate in Multi-Faith Anti-Hate Vigil

Directors Jeyanthi Ghatraju and Sanjay Kenchegowda participated in an evening of solidarity at Indivisible Westford's multi-faith anti-hate vigil on the Westford Town Common. The vigil was in remembrance of victims and survivors of hate crimes.

According to the Lowell Sun, faith leaders from Congregation Shalom in Chelmsford; St. Catherine's of Alexandria in Westford; the Islamic Center of Boston; First Parish Church United in Westford; and the New England Shirdi Sai Parivaar in Chelmsford also attended and offered prayers and words of support.

"About 150 people braved the bitter cold," said Jeyanthi. "We heard the benediction 'Maithreem Bhajatha Akila Hrith Jeththreem.'" The benediction was composed in Sanskrit by Jagadguru Shri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati, the Paramacharya of Kanchi. It was sung to a standing ovation at the United Nations by the famous Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi in 1966.

Conversion of PIO Cards into OCI Cards
IAGB Secretary Avinash Patil shares a communication from the Consulate General of India in New York regarding the conversion of PIO cards into OCI cards.

The Consulate recommends that PIO card holders under its jurisdiction urgently convert their PIO cards into OCI cards by applying to CKGS. The deadline for the conversion process is June 30, 2017.

Dharma Center of America

Dharma Center of America (DCA) is a vegetarian food pantry that helps Lowell residents with their basic food needs, at no cost.

"Dharma" means doing the right thing at the right time without expecting anything in return and DCA strives to help alleviate hunger and poverty. Since three of the important factors for eradicating hunger and poverty are food, a healthy lifestyle and access to education, DCA also provides yoga classes by a certified yoga instructor and after-school education to disadvantaged students, both at no cost. During April vacation, DCA is running a free MCAS boot camp to prepare students from grades 5-8 in Lowell public schools for the upcoming MCAS exam.

DCA is a community service organization with a pending application for 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status. It is located at 144 Merrimack Street in Lowell, MA, and has the support of Lowell’s Mayor Edward Kennedy and the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.
