Communiqu #2

February 2011

Greetings!

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

It's nearing the end of February and the results from Groundhog Day seem to be unanimous - Shubenacadie Sam, Wiarton Willie, and Punxsutawney Phil all predict an early spring for 2011. For many, it's very difficult to believe the rodents, as anyone in the northwestern United States or Eastern Canada would attest. Canadians are hearty people though, resilient against weather, tolerant to a fault. Putting up with the seasons means we are adept to change, and in fact many of us embrace transition. So when IAP2 members know that they have an Affiliate to call their own, it's difficult not to get excited.

IAP2 Canada is now incorporated as a Canadian not-for-profit corporation. There is still much work to be done, including financial matters, operational policies, and a governance framework. This is where you, the member, come in. Soon, you will be able to make your views known through our Member Engagement website, or, if you cannot wait to have your views known, you can contact any of the interim board members. Watch for a link to the engagement site in your email soon.

Member Engagement website launched!

Let's Talk IAP2

The membership engagement committee, together with Engagement HQ and SustaiNet Software Solutions, has launched a website http://letstalkiap2.com that enables you to help shape IAP2 Canada and its strategic direction. It's an opportunity to hear from past, current, and future members about the operational and governance structure of your organization. Your discussions will provide the recommendations and priorities for the future direction for the incoming IAP2 Canada Board of Directors.

It's a moderated discussion forum that provides anonymity, is easy to use, and you'll be helping to shape the future of IAP2 Canada - your professional organization. Remember to visit often to see what others are saying, get new information, and continue to participate in the evolving discussion.

So go to http://letstalkiap2.com, check out the topics, and take part in the community discussion. The best way to benefit from an organization is to help build it by making your views known.

Member Services

Plans are being finalized for developing and implementing services for members. Membership growth is important to the long-term sustainability and national presence of IAP2 Canada. We are actively seeking new members, hoping to bring back lapsed members, and encouraging early renewals before the AGM.  We still need your input. Contact Tracey Ehl to have your voice heard tracey@ehlharrison.com.

Annual General Meeting

Plans for the AGM are coming together very quickly. Look for firm dates to appear in the next Communiqu. For now, we can tell you that it will be in June, and somewhere in or around Toronto, ON. An exciting program and training opportunity will make this an event not to be missed.

Getting news to you
The construction of the IAP2 Canada website is close to completion. You could say that the foundation, walls and roof are in place, and we are in the process of finishing the interior touches before the move-in date. Part of the website will be a Members Q & A section, and as the old saying goes, there are no such things as stupid questions. So we encourage you to send them along to IAP2 Canada. Of course, all questions will remain anonymous. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the Federation Qs and As.
