Welcome Our Newest Members
Issue: # 1
May/2015

Thank you for your membership and continued support and dedication to the success of the International Association of Trampoline Parks!  We are very excited to continue to see our industry grow, both domestically and internationally. At the end of 2014 we estimated there were 345 parks open with an additional 115 slated to open by the end of 2015 in North America alone.

The international community is a buzz with rapid development as parks are opening weekly all over the world. The IATP has identified at least 100 parks scheduled to open in the UK, Singapore, Australia, Mexico, Malaysia, Dubai, The Netherlands, France, Spain, Estonia, Bahrain, Thailand, Hong Kong and Indonesia by the end of this year.

We are seeing almost as much growth, if not more, internationally and expect this shift to continue in the coming years as more markets domestically are reaching saturation.  We estimate, but do not know for sure, that the US will have close to 600 operating trampoline parks at full saturation.

While the industry grows, so does the spotlight on everything we do. The recent shutdown of an indoor trampoline park in Edinburgh, Scotland has brought forth the importance of proper operating procedures, staff education and certification in the indoor trampoline park industry. The IATP is committed to working with our domestic and international members to not only promote the safety recommendations and standards established by ASTM International, but to continue gathering best practices to benefit the industry as a whole.

For the association to be effective it has become necessary to create a number of committees to address the specific needs and concerns of our membership.  The committees are the backbone of the association and without the commitment and involvement of our membership we would not be able to implement programs, increase our membership and communicate effectively with our members.   Today, we have 16 active committees that meet monthly. We encourage you to click on the link and get involved: https://iatp.memberclicks.net/committees.

The committees have been engaged and actively working towards accomplishing their respective 2015 goals as set forth at the IATP Annual Winter Meeting.  We are pleased with the direction the association is heading, and the continued focus on adding value for the membership.  A few example of new member's services coming in 2015 through the hard work of our committees include:

* The IATP Insurance Program
* The IATP Risk Management Manual
* IATP Legislative Tracking in all 50 States & Congress

We've accomplished a lot in our first three years, however we will always have more to do as our industry continues to grow. We need you to continue to help spread the word to your colleagues and to businesses that provide services for you so we can all work together to offer the best resources to pursue common interests, create valuable new member services, and influence the future direction of the industry!

Respectfully,

Jeff Platt, IATP Chairman

Legislative Update

In January 2015 the IATP began tracking and monitoring legislation in all 50 States plus Congress.  It is imperative that our members be in the know if legislation is introduced that could potentially impact any aspect of the indoor trampoline park industry.

We are currently monitoring three bills in New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia:

New Jersey - NJ - A3538
Introduced in July and has since had no action, however the legislation would limit liability for operators of buildings, facilities, or premises for certain sports, games, and amusement activities.

Illinois - IL- HB1372
Amends the Sanitary Food Preparation Act. Requires that all premises of a permitted food establishment, including indoor play areas, be kept clean, fully operative, and in good repair. Sets forth specific requirements for an owner or operator of a permitted food establishment with an indoor play area. Sets forth mandatory procedures for when vomiting or fecal accidents occur in or around an indoor play area. Sets forth provisions concerning signage.

If you own or operate a park in Illinois that also provides food service you will want to pay close attention to this legislation and comply accordingly once it is set forth into law.

Georgia - GA- HB 488
HB 488 was introduced at the beginning of 2015 and currently awaits committee action. The bill was introduced in response to an incident at Rockbridge Adventures which isn't an actual "trampoline park" but rather a facility offering a variety of activities including a foam pit.

The IATP does not expect action on this legislation until the beginning of 2016.  We will work with Georgia Lawmakers and Stakeholders to ensure that comprehensive indoor trampoline court regulations are ultimately passed into law.
