From Your Independent Bankers Association
Of New York State

At this special time of year, your team at the Independent Bankers Association of New York State sends warm wishes for a happy, healthy Thanksgiving holiday.

Together, we give thanks for the many blessings we share, and rededicate our efforts on behalf of those among us who find themselves in need.

As community bankers, that's what we're all about. W e are committed to serving our local customers and neighborhoods: By meeting their housing, consumer and small business needs, while supporting our local civic, charitable and community programs.

We at IBANYS are also thankful for our member banks, associate members, preferred providers and all our partners. We wish you all a wonderful holiday, and promise to return next week to continue preparing to make 2017 the best year ever for the New York community banking industry!

IBANYS Office will be closed Friday, November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

We will re-open Monday, November 28.
  DID YOU KNOW. . .

. . .that f rom the time of the  Founding Fathers  until President Abraham Lincoln, the date Thanksgiving was observed varied from state to state?

Thanksgiving was first celebrated on the same date by all states in 1863 by a presidential proclamation of President  Lincoln, who  proclaimed the date to be the final Thursday in November in an attempt to foster a sense of American unity. However, b ecause of the Civil War,  a nationwide Thanksgiving date was not fully realized until  Reconstruction  was completed in the 1870s.  On December 26, 1941, President  Franklin D. Roosevelt  signed a joint resolution of Congress changing the national Thanksgiving Day from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday.

Did you also know. . .
. . .that 88% of Americans surveyed by the National Turkey Federation eat turkey on Thanksgiving? Estimates are that  46 million turkeys  are eaten each Thanksgiving, 22 million on Christmas and 19 million on Easter.

New York community banks play a key role in our state and local economies. Help spread the good news among your customers, business and elected leaders and media!
