New Jersey Coach Connect
May 2016

Dear Coaches,

Recently, I had the pleasure of hearing Michael Lee Stallard, author of Connection Culture: The Competitive Advantage of Shared Identity, Empathy, and Understanding at Work, speak on the importance of feeling connected at work and with others. As a coach, I found his presentation fascinating and incredibly validating for the coaching profession.

Specifically, his presentation surmised that companies need to provide the following for their employees in order for them to feel connected and engaged at work.
  • Vision - must motivate employees to be part of their company's mission
  • Value - must inspire employees
  • Voice - companies must have a reputation that makes employees proud
As a coach, isn't this much of what we do with our clients?
  • Partner with senior leaders to create vision, mission and values for themselves and their companies.
  • Collaborate with our clients as they innovate and develop their products and services and build their company's brand?
  • Support all types of employees as they honor themselves and the work that they do.
Next week is International Coach Week, and given the above thoughts, I challenge each of you to identify one person who could benefit from your services and provide them a complementary coaching conversation that will leave them motivated, inspired, and prepared to take action.

Thank you for being in service to all of those who benefit from your coaching.

All the Best,
RenĂ©e Robertson
2016 ICF-NJ President

"The challenge of leadership is to be strong,
but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble,
but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor,
but without folly."

International Coaching Week 2016
International Coaching Week (ICW) is an annual week-long global celebration of the coaching profession and is intended to educate the public about the value of working with a professional coach, as well as to acknowledge the results and progress made through the coaching process.

During this week, coaches around the world offer a variety of activities and pro bono services in their local communities to enable others to experience coaching and its benefits firsthand.

Below are 8 ideas for increasing awareness of the profession (and your business) during International Coaching Week (May 16-22, 2016):
  1. Provide 30-minute laser coaching sessions at no charge to introduce coaching to your community. Advertise to your network to increase awareness of coaching.
  2. Have a panel of coaches focused on job search and do a presentation at a local job search group.
  3. Collaborate with a local nonprofit whose mission and values align with those of ICF to host a panel discussion or deliver pro bono coaching to its clients.
  4. Identify a corporate partner and deliver workshops, coaching demonstrations or lunch-and-learns to promote the value of coaching in the workplace.
  5. Volunteer to speak at a networking group to increase member awareness of the type of results clients receive from coaching.
  6. Write a press release about your event, workshop or other activity during coaching week as a way to increase awareness as well as visibility for your own business.  Check out Three Tips for Writing an Effective Press Release:  http://bit.ly/1SHEFWZ
  7. Publish a blog illustrating a case study of one or two of your clients to share the benefits and impact of coaching.
  8. Leverage your social media to share articles and advice related to coaching as well as share other activities in your community that support coaching week.
How are you going to increase the awareness of the coaching profession and the work you do as a coach this month?  Let us know!
