New Jersey Coach Connect
Summer 2016
TopofDoc
Hello Members,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying your summer. While you have been busy coaching and enjoying the sunshine, your board has been hard at work preparing for 2017.

At the July Board meeting, we had a robust discussion about the coaching industry, and how both the industry and our chapter evolved over the years. We are both entering a mature state and need to consider how best to serve our constituents going forward. Based on the Membership Survey feedback, and speaking with members at our programs and community groups, it is clear that our purpose is to serve our members through providing a sense of community and offering professional and business development programs, while continuing to focus on membership growth and maintaining our financial health.

With this said, it is important for you to know that the Elections for the 2017-2018 Board is upon us and there are several opportunities for our members to play a role and make a greater contribution. As it relates to the board positions, we will be looking to fill the following positions in 2017/2018.

President - The President is the chief executive officer of the Board of Directors and is responsible for the general charge of the business affairs.

President-Elect/Vice-President - The Vice President is responsible for duties that are assigned to him or her in their role. For example, they may oversee the membership function. In addition, during the absence or disability of the President, the President-Elect/Vice-President shall exercise all the functions of the President.

Chief Administrative Officer (formerly known as the Secretary) - The Chief Administrative Officer oversees our virtual assistant, who keeps records of all the proceedings of meetings; manages the email lists for the Board and Members; handles events registration; and all website management duties and communications, such as the newsletter and events messaging.

Treasurer - The Treasurer oversees the fiscal operations of the chapter, including managing our bookkeeper, who maintains and generates all of our financial statements, and overseeing financial transactions, as well as conducting the filing of the financial report due to the ICF annually.

If a Board assignment seems too large of a commitment, please consider volunteering to be on a committee, supporting an event, or joining
Karen Delk, our Nominations Committee Chairperson, to support the board nominations process.

If you are interested in one of the above positions, please reach out to Karen directly at [email protected].

Thank you in advance for your continued support.

All the Best,
RenĂ©e Robertson
2016 ICF-NJ President

The Benefits of Participating on
the ICF-NJ Board of Directors
by Kim Pisolkar, Communications Director

You may be wondering why you should consider being a member of the ICF-NJ Board of Directors. I know that when I first decided to become a Board Member, it was because I really wanted to have a Board experience, and the timing coincided perfectly.

I got a lot more than I expected - I built great relationships with my peers and learned the "rules of the road" for being on a Board.

In talking with past and present Board Members, there are a lot of great benefits of participating on the ICF-NJ Board of Directors. Here are the top 5:
  • Opportunity to serve clients and coaches in New Jersey
  • Personal growth and development as a leader
  • The opportunity to collaborate and innovate with an engaging and high energy team
  • Share ideas on programming and events that can make ICF-NJ a "go-to authority" for the organizations and people who hire coaches.
  • Be part of a community that is focused on making a difference in the lives of our members and clients.
While there is definitely a commitment involved in participating on the Board, there are numerous payoffs as well.

Interested in becoming involved? Contact Karen Delk at [email protected], our Nominations Committee Chairperson, for additional information.
