A Message from Marc Gordon,  IHLA President & CEO
October 2017
Dear IHLA Chicago Hotel Members:

Yesterday, as expected, the Chicago City Council passed both the sexual harassment ordinance requiring hotels to have panic buttons and the AED ordinance requiring hotels to have at least one AED in the hotel and at least one hotel employee trained and certified in operating an AED and performing CPR on duty at all times. I recently sent details about each of these ordinances and the work we have done to make both of them as reasonable as possible despite the major obstacles we faced from UNITE HERE on protecting female employees from sexual harassment, and from Aldermen Thompson and Burke on protecting the safety of hotel guests and employees experiencing possible heart attacks when several of our hotels currently have no AEDs on property.

You can find a copy of the sexual harassment ordinance that passed yesterday HERE. If you wish to get a list of suppliers including several IHLA Strategic Partners and Allied Members who can provide panic button solutions for our hotel members, please contact Susannah Flanner at [email protected].

You can also view a copy of the AED ordinance that passed yesterday HERE. In response to the section in this ordinance that requires hotels to have at least one employee trained and certified in operating an AED and performing CPR on duty at all times, IHLA will be providing classes at a later time to meet this requirement with our Strategic Partner, United Service Companies. Details on the classes as well as where and when they will be offered, will be sent out in the near future. Stay tuned for all the information.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

Marc Gordon
