IN MEDIA RES

Welcome to In Media Res, a newsletter about De La Salle High School's mission and vision for our students, our families, our alumni, and our community.

In this newsletter, published twice a month during the school year, we share some thoughts about the core values of a Lasallian school and our work in preparing young people for college, career, and life.

In Media Res is Latin for "in the middle of things." I think that sums up high school pretty well. Secondary education in the United States is about readiness and transition. At De La Salle, we seem to be in the middle of a paradox - holding on to timeless values that should never change and adapting to an era of rapid change. Maneuvering this landscape is the heart of what we do.

MUCH TO CELEBRATE

November is when 7th and 8th grade students apply for their first choice Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. We are pleased to announce that we have increased the number of first choice applications for the second year in a row...yielding a two-year increase of 55%. What a tribute to our faculty, students, families and alumni.

The investiture of Kenneth Polite '93 as our U.S. Attorney earlier this month was a day for all of us to be proud Cavaliers. Enjoy this photo of our two Student Council Presidents (Julien Purpura and Shelby Boyd) with Principal Peggy St. John (who gave a remarkable speech at the ceremony) with Leon Cannizzaro '71, District Attorney for New Orleans, Kenneth, and Jim Letten '71, Associate Dean of the Tulane Law School and former U.S. Attorney.

I AM AT DE LA SALLE BECAUSE...

We are so thankful during this holiday season for the gift of Lasallian education and the wonderful lives we share with our students, families, and alumni. Earlier this year, we created a video that captures that shared spirit of the De La Salle family. I hope you enjoy - it's about ten minutes long, but I promise it moves quickly and provides a heartwarming ending. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
