COMMENTARY
Every year, as the days of November wane, we can count on one thing with absolute certainty.

Like zombies rising from the grave a month ago on Halloween, the Montreal Massacre Media Collective will begin another round of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth akin to Chicken Little screeching “ the sky is falling!

It’s as predictable as Justin Trudeau lying about wearing blackface.

This year the screeching began on November 26th with another round of demands from Collective founders Heidi Rathgen and Natalie Provost. [i]

“…we urge you today to consider implementing an immediate moratorium on new sales of assault weapons as well as a permanent ban on the importation and manufacture of handguns.” [ii]

Each year, The Collective demands more gun bans and more confiscations, yet with the same boringly predictable focus – licensed firearm owners.

You don’t stop bad people from doing bad things by ignoring them.

Yet that didn’t stop these “gun control” activists from sending a letter, more of a demand really, that the newly re-elected Trudeau government ban guns – all of them.

Their angst is both misdirected and misguided.

Every year the Montreal Massacre Media Collective ignores the elephant in the room which, this year, are the inconvenient facts released by Statistics Canada. [iii]

“Ontario, with 69 more victims than in 2017, reported the largest year-over-year increase and the highest number of homicides since data collection began in 1961. This resulted in the highest homicide rate in Ontario since 1991.”

Violent drug dealers, gang members and criminals drove Ontario’s murder rate to a record high in 2018. And it looks like they’ll do it again this year.

If The Collective really cared about public safety (which they don’t – they only care about banning guns from licensed owners) they would focus their demands for government action on an issue which firearm researcher Dennis Young has long raised the red flag.

No police or government agency bothers to check on the hundreds of thousands of individuals who, by court order, are prohibited from possessing firearms to make sure they’re obeying the law. [iv]

Not one.

This is absurd. It’s beyond absurd.

According to Statistics Canada, from 2014–2018, 5,550 individuals were arrested for violating a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO). [v]

Could the total number who violated their prohibition orders be higher?

Absolutely. Statistics Canada only counts those who were caught and charged. How many more broke the law but were never caught?

We don’t know.
The government does not track criminals with an FPO registered against them. The government doesn’t even know where they live.

Why not?

Because, unlike licensed and RCMP-vetted firearm owners, criminals subject to an FPO are not required to inform police when they change their address.
A convicted criminal under a firearms prohibition is not required to check in with law enforcement, nor is there any law ordering police to check in on these proven violent offenders.
Contrast this absurdity of the Firearms Act , which requires licensed firearm owners, (vetted daily by the RCMP) to notify the government when they change addresses within 30 days or face up to 2 years in prison.

If we insist our nation’s safest and most responsible citizens must notify the government when they change residences, what possible rationale is there for NOT demanding the same of those who, by their own actions, proved they pose a real danger to society?

It defies rational thought – not to mention all concern for public safety – that violent, convicted criminals with firearm prohibition orders against them are the ones nobody cares to track.

The Montreal Massacre Media Collective certainly doesn’t care about them or the violence they perpetrate on our nation. The Collective cares about one thing only: removing guns from the hands of licensed firearm owners.

And The Collective will do so again on December 6th with the willing service of a complicit media.

This time, ask The Collective why they’re not concerned about the hundreds of thousands of convicted criminals with Firearm Prohibition Orders against them.

And when they respond, ask the willing mouthpieces of The Collective why they don’t want the 443,000 convicted criminals prohibited from owning firearms tracked with at least the same stringent requirements as licensed firearm owners.

But don’t hold your breath for an answer. That could prove fatal.

GUNTER: UCP firearms motion first step in firewall against feds' meddling

Lorne Gunter | Edmonton Sun | November 29, 2019

On Wednesday, the UCP passed a government motion to “support the ability of Albertans to lawfully and in a responsible manner own and possess firearms.”

While it’s only a motion, not a law, it’s more than just window dressing.

It’s widely expected that once the House of Commons reconvenes next week, one of the Trudeau government’s first orders of business will be a gun ban. The Kenney government is trying to get out ahead of this latest gun grab.

So how does a motion in the Alberta legislature prevent the federal confiscation of hundreds of thousands of legally owned firearms?

It’s likely the federal government will not seize guns directly. Rather, Ottawa will grant municipalities the authority to ban guns within city limits.

GOLDSTEIN: Carding works, banning handguns won’t
Published:  November 30,

Lorrie Goldstein | Toronto Sun | November 30, 2019

Banning handguns in Toronto, the flavour of the month at City Hall, won’t reduce rising gun crime.

Bringing back carding, aka police street checks, would.
The statistics on increasing gun crime since carding was abandoned are staring us in the face.

But no one in authority, not Premier Doug Ford, Toronto Mayor John Tory, city council, or Police Chief Mark Saunders wants to bring back carding for fear of being accused of racism.

From researching Toronto Police crime data, and drawing on the previous work of the  Toronto   Sun’s  Chris Doucette, the statistics are undeniable.

Canadian military warned about 'culture' of stealing within special forces

Military police are investigating several members of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command.

David Pugliese | Ottawa Citizen | Deember 2, 2019

The Canadian military has been warned about a “culture” of stealing within its special forces after equipment, including gun parts and ammunition, was taken from its high security counterterrorism base in Ottawa.

Military police are investigating several members of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, or CANSOFCOM, in the aftermath of the arrest and conviction of Cpl. Pedro Collier, according to court records.
Collier, a special forces member, was found guilty in August of possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000 and possession of a prohibited device.

TOWHEY: Trudeau has a rare chance to reduce gun crime

Mark Towhey | Toronto Sun | November 29, 2019

A rare opportunity exists for the government of Canada to actually make a difference on gun crime.

As Justin Trudeau lays out a legislative agenda for his minority government, an obvious issue on which he will find common cause with both the NDP and Green Party is gun control.

If he uses this alignment to push forward with his past proposals on gun control, then more Canadians will die on our streets and some of their blood will splash onto his hands. None of those proposals actually addresses gun violence.

New Zealand's gun buyback website 'a shopping list for criminals'

Police admit that at least one person had been able to access other firearm owners’ personal information online

Charlotte Graham-McLay | The Guardian | December 2, 2019

New Zealand’s high profile gun buyback scheme, enacted by the prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, after the Christchurch mosque attacks, has been thrown into disarray after police admitted that at least one person had been able to access other firearm owners’ personal information online.

The error became public on Monday when a gun lobby group said it had spoken to 15 people who were able to access information on a website where firearms owners registered weapons to be relinquished. It included their names, addresses, dates of birth, firearms licence numbers and bank account details, the group said.

New Zealand gun owners stage protest over tighter controls

Lidia Kelly | kfgo.com | November 29, 2019|

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - A group of about 50 New Zealand firearm owners protested further gun reforms on Saturday, sounding a note of discord over the tightening of the country's gun laws after the mass shooting in Christchurch in March that killed 51 Muslim worshippers.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's efforts on gun control have gained global praise, but at home - with a general election next scheduled for year - she has faced resistance from the federal opposition National Party, gun lobby groups and ordinary citizens over planned legislation introduced in September.

On Saturday, the group of firearms owners staged a protest at a gun buy-back event in Auckland, according to media reports, carrying placards bearing slogans including "This bill hurts ordinary Kiwis!" and "Be safe: reject arms bill".

Tony Bernardo – D.J Trump Still Winning

Brian Lovig | Right Edition | November 2019

Last week, we discussed – some say ridiculed – the New Zealand police for begging criminals to comply with the law. We thought this was a one-time aberration from the New Zealand’s Commissioner of Police and he would get back to doing his job – arresting criminals and putting them behind bars.

We were wrong.

New Zealand’s decision to pander to criminals instead of arresting them gained traction around the world.

In Sweden, rival drug gangs clash violently as they battle over turf – much the same as they do in every major city in North America.

And what is the crime-fighting tactic of choice for Sweden’s Malmö Chief of Police Stefan Sentéus? [i]
‘Cautious Optimism’ After SCOTUS Hears Arguments
In NY Gun Control Case

Alan Gottlieb | Ammoland Inc. | December 2, 2019

BELLEVUE, WA – -( AmmoLand.com )- The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) today expressed high hopes that the U.S. Supreme Court will “step up to the plate” and expand further on the right to keep and bear arms that is protected by the Second Amendment in the case of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. City of New York.

SAF Board member and syndicated broadcaster Tom Gresham was in the audience and he noted afterwards, “This may be the case that indicates whether the court considers the Second Amendment to be a legitimate right on the same level as the First Amendment.”

Gresham suggested that if the high court decides to reject the case, it will do so shortly. However, if the Court decides to rule in the case, that decision could be as far away as June, on the final day of the current session. The case is a challenge of a now-changed city regulation that forbade handgun owners from taking their guns outside the city limits.

FBI posts big Black Friday gun check numbers; second-largest single day in program history

Kevin Johnson | USA TODAY | December 1, 2019

WASHINGTON – The FBI fielded more than 200,000 background checks on Black Friday gun purchases, continuing a steady surge this year following a series of mass shootings that have renewed calls for more restrictive gun laws.

In all, the bureau posted 202,465 checks Friday, an 11% increase from last year and falling just short of the single-day record: 203,086 in 2017.

While background checks, required for purchases at federally licensed firearm dealers, are not a measure of actual gun sales, the  National Instant Criminal Background Check System  is a way to gauge market demand. The number of firearms sold Friday is likely higher because multiple firearms can be included in one transaction by a single buyer.
Off-duty Manitoba RCMP officer shoots himself while hunting; IIU investigating

Shane Gibson | Global News | December 2, 2019

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba says the officer was hunting Sept. 7 when the “firearm he was carrying discharged, resulting in a serious injury to the officer.”

A IIU spokesperson said the firearm he was carrying wasn’t the officer’s service weapon.

The release says the officer was seriously injured in the shooting.

The IIU also notes any injury caused by the discharge of a firearm is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulations, and as such, the watchdog is mandated to investigate.

The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in the province.

Gun-control lobby urges government for moratorium, bans

Marc Montgomery | rcinet.ca | November 27, 2019; Updated December 2, 2019

One of the main gun-control lobby groups in Canada has sent a letter to the newly re-elected Liberal government urging strong and immediate anti-firearms actions.

The group PolySeSouvient was formed after the deliberate killings of 14 female students at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique University, 30 years ago.

The letter sent by the group on Monday to Bill Blair, the new federal public safety minister and to media outlets, calls for an immediate moratorium on sales of so-called ‘assault-style’ firearms and suggests the government should follow the New Zealand policy of banning virtually all semi-auto rifles. The group also calls for a permanent ban on importation and manufacture of handguns in Canada.
Interview With Stephen Willeford, the Hero of Sutherland Springs

John Crump | Ammoland Inc. | December 2, 2019

Sutherland Springs, TX – -(Ammoland.com)-  Stephen Willeford is the epitome of the definition of a “good guy with a gun.”

On November 5, 2017, a mad man entered the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX, and opened fired on the Church congregation. The attacker killed 26 members of the church and wounded 20 other worshippers. He then fled the house of worship to continue his attacks.

Stephen Willeford, an NRA instructor and firearms enthusiast, knew he must do something to stop the killer's deadly rampage. He couldn't sit around and let a maniac attack his community. He grabbed his AR-15 and set out to end the murderer's violent spree.
