About the Presenter
Dr. Patterson

Dr. Jennifer Patterson is the clinical director of the MidAmerican Psychological Institute and has been practicing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for several years with a focus on clinical compulsive behaviors. She and Dr. Daniel Moran have given many presentations on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Dr. Patterson also is an author for Psychology Today's blog "When More

Workshop Objectives
Bloomington Site

Participants will become familiar with experiential avoidance as a clinically relevant behavior and how to use acceptance and mindfulness interventions

 

Participants will be able to identify value-directed behavior as a clinical aim, its relationship to psychological flexibility and clinical approaches to engender such behavior

 

Participants will be able to use the ACT Case Conceptualization model to assist in assessing clinically relevant behaviors and develop related treatment plans

 

Participants will learn how to apply specific ACT interventions based on case formulations

 

Participants will be exposed to videos of ACT in practice and will be challenged to conceptualize what the ACT consistent intervention should be for that particular case

 

Participant will engage in experiential exercises aimed to increase empathy and clinical awareness

 

Participants will have opportunities to engage in live demonstrations of ACT in practice and receive in-vivo coaching
