March 2018
Indianapolis Professional Photographers Guild
President's Message
Good Morning IPPG!

Spring hasn't quite sprung yet, but it's trying! With temperatures rising and rains falling, we prepare for the burst of color and life that graces us every year at this time! As mother nature turns up the heat, we may as well follow suit here at IPPG! Our year is looking very good with great speakers, more shooting opportunities, and chances to grow. Below, I'll be highlighting some of those opportunities as we are getting our calendar booked for this year and next!

I couldn't be more excited to be leading such an energetic, kind, and motivated group of professionals and life-long learners. It is my goal to match your energy and hunger for knowledge with award-winning, master photographers from around the country, as well as your own back yard, on a variety of topics that will spark your creativity and business needs all year long!

To do this, our board is working tirelessly to make connections and search for opportunities to help you grow. With partnerships such as Roberts Camera, ACI, and Winona School of Professional Photography, we are bringing some really exciting programs. Now, of course, that's only the half of it...

What truly sets IPPG apart from other photographic, learning experiences are the relationships . To build a strong network of colleagues and friends in your own neighborhood proves invaluable time and time again. Whether you have a piece of equipment go down last minute or need help through a Lightroom challenge, IPPG is there every time, and by IPPG, I mean you! We are here for one another as a family that serves to help each of us be better than we were the day before.

Thank you all for providing me with this opportunity. I will do all I can to continue this mission!

Sincerely,

roben

$500 Scholarship Drawing- MARCH Meeting- You MUST BE PRESENT and a MEMBER to Win!
Every year, we hold our annual education scholarship drawing during our March meeting. This year is no different. You don't want to miss this opportunity to win $500 towards your personal, photographic education. How do you win?

  1. You MUST BE PRESENT to win!
  2. You MUST BE AN EXISTING MEMBER to win

It's that easy! If you come to our March meeting as an existing member, you will be added to our drawing of our annual $500 scholarship.

Since this is an educational scholarship, our winner is asked to present their use of this scholarship to the board for approval. This could be towards tuition for Winona School of Professional Photography, a new training subscription, or attending Imaging USA, or any other opportunity that helps you grow. We will ask he/she to pay up front and present his/her receipt, upon which, we will reimburse $500. Upon completion of our winner's use of this scholarship, we will invite that person to share some of what they've learned with our group.

With that, what are you waiting for?! Make sure your 2018 membership is renewed now and that you are registered to join us this coming Tuesday!

Please feel free to contact a board member with any questions!
Meet your Board- Membership Director~ Laura Arrick
Hello Everyone! Here is a little bit about me! I am a portrait photographer and a lifetime Hoosier growing up in Martinsville IN. I attended Indiana University in Bloomington where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from what is now the Kelly School of Business. I met my husband, Bruce, towards the end of college. We’ve been married 28 years and have 3 amazing kids, Davis 23, Erin 20, and Claire 17. I worked in outside sales for 5 years until our son was born and then was a stay at home mom for 12 years. I reentered the workforce when our youngest was in 2nd grade working in our school district part time. My passion for photography began after our children were born and my hobby became a career just a few years ago. I started in sports photography as the volunteer photographer for Fishers High School Swim Team. From there I started taking continuing education classes in photography through IUPUI. After a couple years of those types of classes and online courses, I was really looking to take things to the next level. That’s when IPPG was recommended to me through a photography club. At IPPG I met Sarah Crail who introduced me to PPA. Boy do I wish I had known about PPA about 2 years earlier. It would have really helped in launching my business. I joined PPA immediately and tapped into PPA.edu through the PPA website and started finding so much of the education I was looking for! A couple months later I attended Winona School for the first time. It was there that I met Kristy Steeves, an amazingly accomplished photographer from Cleveland OH. We sat next to each other in our class and became fast friends. Little did I know at the time that she would become my mentor, encouraging me to take the Certified Professional Photographers course and test with her at my very first ImagingUSA convention! We both passed by the way! After that she invited me to her home for a weekend where she taught me her lighting techniques, guided me in my first purchase of lights, and even called models in for us to photograph! I have since been a guest at her home for a PPA Super 1 Day class that she taught and have attended Winona school now for the past 3 years. I look forward to attending again this summer. I am constantly learning new skills and techniques from the amazing photographers that I get to associate with! I am now in my 4th official year of business where my focus is High School Senior Portraits, Newborn Children and Family Portraits, and Business Head Shots. I am excited to be your IPPG Member Chair again this year and to serve with such a great group of photographers! Please feel free to check out other examples of my work at:

Featured Member of the Month- Tami Mohs
Tami Mohs grew up on a small farm in central Minnesota, the second of eleven children. She studied fine art at Moorhead State University, Minnesota where she achieved her Bachelor of Fine Art degree. The primary area of focus was drawing and painting. After marrying, she moved to Columbus where she studied and worked as a graphic artist and where her four boys were born. Life has taken her family to move around to different locations including nearly four years in Sweden. It was during this time in Sweden she turned to photography and took online classes to improve and create better images of the surroundings and all the places they were able to visit. Upon returning to Columbus, she has started a small photography business as an outlet for creativity and growth. She is a member of Professional Photographers of America and enjoys the continued opportunities for learning more about her craft and competition opportunities. She is also a member of Indianapolis Professional Photography Guild and current president of Columbus Viewfinders Photography Club. Aside from the photography, Tami enjoys helping out the Columbus North Marching band, cycling, learning to figure skate, and last but not least, spending time with her boys.
