HOW TO AVOID THE DREADED SUMMER BRAIN DRAIN

What's Summer Brain Drain? The term defines the learning loss all youth experience when they don't engage in educational activities during the summer.

Without finding ways to spark educational enrichment, the dreaded "summer slide" can occur. According to National Summer Learning Association (NSLA), most students score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than at the beginning. Their retention of certain skills suffer even more: NSLA reports that most kids lose about two months of grade-level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer.

This summer, help your children avoid brain drain by pledging to make it a season of learning, as well as a trove of memory-building fun. There are plenty of ways parents can create high-quality summer learning opportunities so students don't lose the knowledge they worked so hard to learn in school.
