NEW IPSF SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ARTS
|
|
In celebration of our 20th Anniversary, IPSF has established the IPSF Scholarship for the Arts in Honor of Will Ferrell. This $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified IUSD high school student graduating in June 2017 and planning to pursue post-secondary education. We are seeking a student who exemplifies a passion for the Arts whether in music, dance or theater, and has that certain spark defined by Will Ferrell, IUSD alumnus and internationally-acclaimed actor, comedian, producer, and writer.
The goal for the scholarship is to inspire developing talent who stand out to teachers and peers for their originality, but may otherwise go unnoticed - the student with the witty way of viewing life, the young artist who sees beauty in struggle, or the one who perseveres despite setbacks. We are accepting applications now through September 18, with the scholarship presentation taking place at the Spirit of Excellence Gala in October.

Save the Date! Instrument Rental Day for year-round schools will take place on Saturday, July 23, and Instrument Rental Day for traditional calendar schools will be held on Saturday, September 10. Each year, IPSF rents over 2,000 high-quality musical instruments at affordable prices to students in IUSD. On June 23, IPSF's Summer Enrichment Academy hosted Olympic Day 2016 at Rancho San Joaquin Middle School. Olympic Day is a celebration for youth around the world to observe the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect. It is also a celebration of the Olympic Day pillars: move, learn, and discover.
IPSF's very own Director of Business Development and two-time Olympian, Donald Suxho, of Team USA spoke to students about his experience as a USA Volleyball player and challenged them to show how they exemplify the Olympic spirit.

SCHOOL FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT MEASURE PASSES IN IRVINE
On June 7, the school facilities improvement measure (Measure E), which was placed on the ballot by the Irvine Unified School District Board of Education, passed with 60% of the vote. Measure E will provide a maximum available bond issuance of $319 million, restricted for facilities projects to modernize the District's older schools. This funding will be issued over 12 years, beginning early 2017, according to IUSD.
IPSF recognizes the need for modernization in order to bring our aging schools up to the standards of the newer schools, and support the District in their efforts to provide much-needed facilities improvements. Passage of Measure E is an important step towards ensuring all IUSD schools meet the same safety and academic standards as newer schools, and that all students have equal access to the best and most up to date educational facilities.
While Measure E addresses many of the facilities challenges that Irvine schools face, IUSD needs the support of the community and IPSF more than ever to continue to fund the programs and people that bring those facilities to life. IPSF's support of salaries for instructional assistants, music teachers, instrumental music assistants, and athletic trainers, in addition to programs like Honor's Concert, STEAM, and Innovative Teaching Grants are all possible thanks to the generosity of parents and community members. We look forward to your ongoing support as we continue to make an impact in the lives of each child in every school!
