IPSO CHALLENGE 2013 Winner Announced at Sensors Expo

The winner for IPSO CHALLENGE 2013 IoT Innovation Contest was named at Sensors Expo in Chicago on 6 June.  

 

IPSO held its inaugural CHALLENGE competition to showcase the most innovative and interesting uses of IP in the Internet of Things. All finalist teams were flown in by IPSO to participate in the IoT Pavilion at Sensors Expo and be on-hand for the award ceremony.  "IPSO CHALLENGE was a great experience and event to present our Energy Monitoring platform," said Mariano Alvira, CEO of Redwire Consulting.    

  

"Energy Harvesting Current Transformer" from Redwire Consulting, L.L.C of Boston, MA - a self-powered current sensor that wirelessly connects to the internet - took home first prize, including the $10,000 reward check.  "The innovation, simplicity and end-to-end utilization of IP technology made this entry stand out to the judges," stated Nick Ashworth, IPSO CHALLENGE Chairman.

"As a small company, this has been a unique opportunity to get international exposure for our smart objects," shared Colin O'Flynn, CTO of Colorado Micro Devices, whose entry "CMD Asset Management", a network of low-power wireless nodes that simplify security and asset management applications, took home 2nd place and the $5,000 prize.   Geoff Mulligan, Chairman of IPSO Alliance, was impressed by the simplicity of the design and effective use of IP, "If this was on the market today, I would purchase it to take advantage of IP enabled home security."  

  

Antonio Jara, CTO of viBrain Solutions, stated: "This contest motivated and challenged us to move from an idea to a real, working prototype."  Their "Smart Lighting Solutions", a scalable IP monitoring and control solution for street light networks, placed 3rd and won the $2,500 prize   "The quality of implementation and functionality of the prototype was very impressive," stated Tom Herbst, IPSO Alliance board member.
